so true....

Well, I was at the Inauguration (50 feet away from the Prez to be exact) though I voted for Kerry. I just hope that Bush won't be as right-wing as some of his constituents. I would back him up more if he was more moderate like Schwarzeneggar or Giuliani. (Personally, it tickles me pink that Ahhhnold is the governator and a Kennedy-in-law.) Anyway, the fact that Bush won't press for the anti-gay amendment is a good sign. (My close gay Republican friend told me that Bush really isn't anti-gay, and he claims he knows since his family is really ensconced in the GOP - his baby-sitter growing up was even Mary Cheney! Kinda funny when you think about it.)

On a different note, I find it ridiculous that you're now not allowed to go to the bathroom on the plane if you're flying out of D.C. We were told by the flight staff that we should use the bathroom before boarding the plane, because once on we wouldn't be able to stand up AT ALL. If anyone does, the plane would land at the closest airport and the perpetrator would be handed over to the 'authorities.' Kind of excessive, don't you think? What happened to our civil liberties?

What kind of airline are you flying? I came back today (Los Angeles) from the Inauguration (I wasn't 50 feet away, but I did have a nice view of things. At least I didn't get the nosebleed area, lol!) .. I flew in from Dulles about 20 minutes ago..

Yay!!!! Welcome Backkk!

Delta flight back to NY

Ouch. I flew United back to LA, and it was fine.

Have to admit though, there was a load of people there. I would think nearly 100,000.

any opinions on the State of U?

it was excellent.

I Loved It!!!

Perfect. :)

propaganda

I hear enough bull***** in a standard day to make me want to avoid political speeches at all costs. I'm heavily interested in politics, but I find the vast majority of speeches coming from either side of the political spectrum to be so laden with crap that I can't bear to listen to them.

The fact that I hate Bush from the bottom of my heart doesn't make it any easier though.

I am very split in my political views... Just a small sample :)
- Prisoners should have no rights
- I love the death penalty
- I don't think abortion is legal
- I think you need to control guns
- I am against welfare and foodstamps except for extreme cases

However this November I voted for Bush. I was originally going to vote for Kerry but then I realized on my way to the voting booth that I was making a mistake

Actually...hopinslax...that doesn't sound very split at all. The only democratic position you hold is gun control...the rest are very conservative and republican positions.

woops for abortion I meant I don't think abortion should be illegal

It's is all your fault we have Bush as a President :(

He's an embarrassment.

i think that its time that we make another youth international party. both political parties are corrupt and not in the best interests of the ppl. all of you guys need to get out, read what abbie hoffman said, and reclaim the yippie party w me!!

Conservative here...

The State of the U was so much better this year than it was last year. Must have been the presence of the Iraqi woman and the marine's parents.

The only downside was that I didn't hear any new Bushisms. :( I happen to find them hilarious and they always add a nice touch to Bush's speeches.

liberals want to lend a helping hand to those who our government tramples over because of greed. I know I am fortunate to be born in this country, to have good food to eat, a bed to sleep in, a right to an education, and a government who cannot shoot me for questioning its actions.

LoL that's not why liberals have a bad rap...you have a bad rap because you have people like michael moore, howard dean, nancy pelosi, and super left wing street protestors representing your views even if you don't mean for them to. they turn people off---nancy pelosi is an open supporter of abortion at 8-9 months of pregnancy, that's extreme for most Americans even pro choice ones. But hey she's your house minority leader and i think that's fine because as long as she is...(oh and howard dean might become the DNC chair or something) then Republicans will keep winning elections. =)!

i hope michael moore comes out with some new movie before the next election

maybe if you had harold ford jr. of tennessee or joe lieberman as the spotlight democrats you'd gain more popularity---becuase they're liberal, question the Bush administration, support more options for low income Americans etc...without being the psychobabblers that come off as anti-American.

"it isn't moral to exploit the middle class for the interests of greedy corporations, it isn't moral to destroy the environment, it isn't moral to stereotype the poor and call them "lazy" as if they chose that life, it isn't moral to allow the outsourcing of American jobs overseas,"

right and i guess if we leave everything up to the government all will be solved --becuase ACCORDING TO LIBERALS: Governments are inherently moral. rolleyes oh and people who make salaries over a$80,000 a year are "too rich" and have a moral obligation to give half their money to the government, which can spend it on whatever inefficient expensive social program or pour it into some messed up education system taken over by bureaucrats.

What does the whole greedy corporations have to do with anything? If you're solely associating them with republicans that's stupid. The people at Enron had plenty of connections with prominent Democrats too. ANd guess what? They're BEING punished! Our economic system will never be perfect---but just becuase stuff liekt his happens, doesn't mean our system is inherently bad. The GOVERNMENT shouldn't have the right to exploit people who work hard and want to keep their own money---no matter how "large" or "small" their salaries are.

stereotype the poor and call them "lazy" as if they chose that life---of course that's bad. but there's a difference between banning welfare and REFORMING it. everybody has different reasons to be on it, single jobless mother with 5 kids for example deserves assistance-- unfortunately in places that DO have welfare states (like in many european countries) there are people that stay TRAPPED in it and don't get out, and too many immigrants come into the countries and take advantage of welfare benefits for years on end while the rest of working society is forced to pay.

At least politicans in the USA have figured out that what governments SHOULD do is limit the amount of time someone can be on welfare, and spend more money towards job training programs, daycare centers, and stuff like that so that even motivated people shouldn't feel as if they are trapped and have to hang on for dear life to the "safety" tent the government provides. hmm i think Bill Clinton advocated welfare reform.

u wanna know something i don't get? why do so many liberals waste their precious time bashing religion instead of realizing the fact that religious groups/private charities have done more for society than any government. why is it bad for Bush to spend the money that was going to expensive, inefficient, and corrupt government services and put it towards faith-based/private groups that have actually DONE stuff for the the most needy in society! go to any inner city, and you'll realize that the vast majority of organizatinos that are actually DOING something about homelessness, gangs, pregnant teens, afterschool programs, drug rehabilitation, etc...are never affiliated with the government.

This work extends to the rest of the world, like the Anglican Church setting up numerous job training centers for uneducated blacks in South Africa, who are still recovering form the effects of apartheid-- or the AIDS clinics that are only up and running because of massive involvement from the religous and donations from those "evil" wealthy people in America.

Bush won not only because of "morality" but people do like his economic philosophies...one thing that brought down John Kerry was his flip floppiness on tax cuts. WEALTHY people who have tons of assets, or inheritance, and tons of money don't exactly get affected by taxes like people think....Taxes affect people who make SALARIES. these people mostly include entrepeneurs who are working their way up or small business owners who need to pay their employees, and companies who want to start up and grow. Taxes hurt people who are working hard to progress further.
