The Dark Side of Boarding Schools (or at least the stuff they don't volunteer)

How do I find crime stats. for boarding schools? My search doesn’t provide any results…

I think it would be very difficult to establish a database on crimes at boarding schools, because the overwhelming majority of students are minors, and their identities will be protected. I personally cannot think of many instances of violent crime. I think it’s safe to say that - while things happen on boarding school campuses - most students are less likely to commit or be victims of crimes at boarding school than they would at home. Most problems are dealt with through campus discipline, without involving police. Petty theft and minor drug possession (pot, overwhelmingly) are the most prevalent, but how many kids haven’t lost belongings elsewhere? I doubt that pot-smoking is any more common at any prep school than at any public school. Kids at boarding school do not have cars, and so they are unlikely to drive drunk. They face curfews and dormitory check-ins, and so the occasions for serious trouble are limited.

It’s a shame that the Jeanne Clery Act does not apply to BS.

Well, my daughter boards 5 days at an all girl school 6-12. Every time we come to pick up/drop off, the back door(s) of the dorm are propped open. This makes me crazy. The head of school says “nothing has ever happened here, so why should we spend the money to secure the doors”. Any advice?
