The details they don't tell you

Okay, so i’m interested in BU and who knows if I can get in but that doesn’t matter right now. I want you to tell me the little things the website/tour guides don’t tell you about. For example I know they have lots of study abroads and such but I didn’t realize they had a little lazy river. Thanks!

there is a castle on campus that contains the BU Pub, where Dean Elmore frequently hangs out with students. You can get discount/free tickets for many events in Boston, including movies and the symphony, at the GSU when presenting your student ID. the BU shuttle runs up and down campus every 10 minutes and goes from the student village to the medical campus. every 10 years when they are due to replace the turf at nickerson field they have a concert; i saw cobra starship and three 6 mafia which was probably around 2007-2008 (so the next concert may be while you’re there!). there is a bay state formal every year that’s like a prom. if the hockey team wins the national championship, they may have a duck boat parade down comm ave like they did in 2009 (but with parker being replaced this year, the team may need a few years to adjust). i think that’s a decent amount for now!!! probably lots of other new stuff since i graduated in 2009.

in 2011-2012, 2 boston university hockey got kicked off the hockey team for raping girls their names are max nicastro and corey trivino. both got expelled from the school as well.

not saying they are innocent or guilty but you need to be careful what you post

“Rape Charges Against Former Hockey Players Dismissed”

well corey trivino did plead guilty in court so…

[Corey Trivino sentenced to probation after following student back to Boston University dorm room | Mail Online](<a href=“Corey Trivino sentenced to probation after following student back to Boston University dorm room | Daily Mail Online”>Corey Trivino sentenced to probation after following student back to Boston University dorm room | Daily Mail Online)

Not to rape…to a lesser charge

bigbooklover are you an expert on this? what you read one new post that i link and you think you know everything about it>?? highly doubt it, ive followed this story for 2 years now so don’t post a bunch of misinformation please.

Dont know how this in misinformation…you named two individuals and said they raped a young girl…the judicial system disagrees with you. I have no idea what actually happened, and either do you, all we know is what was decided in the courts. Slander is a very dangerous thing

Chickenfried

From the article, I think you’re wrong. Where does it say that either player was convicted of rape? While I think that their actions were disgusting and the team’s antics reprehensible, the legal system, whether right or wrong, gave its ruling.

thank you PsychoDad10 that is my point. It is really easy to hide behind anonymous social networking sites and post misinformation.

please do not base all your information, this is just one random article that i found. After this whole thing happened BU employed a task force team to study the culture of the team. And if you read the article, Corey did plead guilty, don’t try to act like some kind of know it all just because you read some random article that i posted.

you people are just trying to start start up a fight here so i am going to go ahead and put you on ignore bcuz i dont deal with trolls, i posted this just to give ppl something that " bu didn’t tell you" , if you want to learn more about what happened , do your own research don’t assume your an expert on the issue because you read one random article that i found and posted.

And I am still stuck on the “little lazy river.” Do you mean The Charles? Or the river through the Fenway, The Muddy River, which is mostly not on the BU campus, but a nice place for a walk or bike ride. What river are you talking about??

There’s a lazy river in the Fitness and Rec center. You know, like they would have at a water park. I asked if you could do this for gym credit (I’m thinking no). It’s in a separate area behind the regular pools.

There is a BU Beach–it’s not an actual beach, and you wouldn’t want to swim in the Charles. BU Beach is just a place where the students like to hang out on nice days.

My daughter fell in love with the brownstones that are used for specialty housing. She figured she’d do Warren her first year–she wanted to make friends across many majors. Lo and behold, she was assigned to the education brownstone. There are less than 3 dozen students living in it, so it’s got a cozy feel versus the huge, lively dorms. But from what I gather, she’s had no issues making friends.

They also offer classes and have special performances for non-dance majors. This was a big deal to my daughter, who’s a competent dancer, but not a Fine Arts major, and certainly couldn’t compete with the people who are. I know she auditioned for something, but didn’t really care if she got in or not. The dance clubs are a much cheaper way for her to dance versus the dance classes offered at the rec center (although she can take those for gym credit). They might do something similar for other arts fields–music or art for non-majors, so a student could enjoy a passion on a “fun” level.

Oohhh, hmm, kind of makes me reconsider my annual contribution to BU. And here I though Georgia Tech was extravagant with their water slide. Gotta admit it sounds like fun.

Aside from the legal awkwardness this was pretty cool. Thanks everyone. Yeah I hear the lazy river is for physical therapy I believe but I don’t quite buy into that.

Now Tygett rushes off to write his BU supplement :P

The Dean of Students is possibly the coolest Dean on the face of the planet. He is passionate, engaged, classy without being stuffy, and a fabulous model of lifelong learning. A couple of years ago, he made a pact that if the graduating class had 2012 people make contributions to the giving fund, he would jump into the Charles River. This from a man that never learned to swim as a kid. He was videoed doing all the steps (getting a physical, learning to swim at Fit Rec, etc, and jumped into the Charles River wearing his traditional bow tie.) It was a blast.

I love Dean Elmore! You can tell he really draws his energy from the students. He’s an outstanding role model, and a real gem of a human being.

The BU Dining Service is awesome! Not only is the food good, they have lots of speciality nights, like Lobster Night and Visiting Chef Series. There are tons of options on campus to eat with your meal plan and convenience points. Additionally, they’re super active on social media and try and resolve problems and answer questions quickly. They even shipped me a box of BU cookies, Nutella, fluff, and a teddy bear all the way to Sydney last semester.

Sounds really cool. But yeah, I enjoy researching things I’m interested in a little too deeply. :stuck_out_tongue: I still have a year left to start applying and seeing if I can get in so the “dream school” changes every few months. Boston sounds super cool.
