Does anyone have any suggestions on the meal plan? Is the 14 meals per week plan enough or does everyone get (and fully utilize) the unlimited plan?

and this is suppose to be the best

i started with 14 and then switched down to 10 meals/week after the first semester. I always ate dinner in the dining hall, I almost always ate lunch with Big Red Bucks and i'm not really a breakfast person so I would use the extra meals for brunch on sat and sun and an occasional breakfast in the dining hall.

If you're unsure about which one to get, you can always start with the unlimited and try it out for a couple weeks and then switch to the 14 (or less) if you think that will work better. You get a refund for the price difference.

I had 14 and switched to 10 first semester....then 2nd semester I had 10 and switched to 7 since I was on campus a lot and would eat most of my meals at Trillium or Ivy Room.

ok thanks everyone for replying! i'm getting the general impression that the food at cornell is good.

and btw, if you had tasted the food at UC Berkeley, you would understand why i might want to base my decision on what university to go to on the food. Berkeley's food was that nasty that I wouldn't want to go there. since I can't really afford the expensive off campus dining options...

cornell used to be ranked number 4

berkeley's food is nasty? wth? i went to eat at crossroads (dining hall) after a tour of the campus and it was really good! crossroads is kinda new, so i dont know if you went there. Cal Dining - Residential Dining - Location - Crossroads here is the menu: http://caldining.berkeley.edu/menus/spr08/cr_menu_033108_d.html

does anyone have cornells menu so i can take a look? lol

maybe its somewhere on this site? : Dining - Dining Home

Just in case anyone else needed further convincing.

Well it shows Cornell has hot girls =)

As good as Cornell's food is, you may get sick of it at some point. But, things are always being changed up and there are so many options that you should try everything.

Otherwise, it's great.

I came to Cornell for the food. and it has not disappointed. My friends and I think it's a treat to eat on North Campus for dinner because it is just that good.

The a la carte places for lunch are really excellent too. There are the famous salads and wraps at Statler, Temple of Zeus soups and BLTeases, the new Moosewood in Anabel Taylor with awesome salads, pitas, and Moroccan stew, there's tasty gourmet prepackaged food at Dairy Bar (and ice cream, of course), the grill in Ivy Room, amazing sandwiches at Cascadeli, and of course places like Louie's lunch and Hot Truck which does your greasy foods and milkshakes oh so deliciously. And oh, I just found out that there's dippin dots at Trillium. I'm gonna miss the food here when I graduate.

Ithaca also has the highest number of restaurants per capita in the state of New York, so you're never at a loss for places to go when you feel like something different.

So if food is your thing, you'll be fine at Cornell. Oh, just no fresh seafood here. Nope. This is the middle of upstate New York, after all.

Re: fresh seafood. Not exactly true.

One of the most delicious meals I ever had at Cornell was a fresh lake trout I caught out of Cayuga Lake. I biked back to my house and grilled it up on the barbecue, with just a splash of lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Words can't describe how delicious it was. My house devoured the fish within a matter of minutes.

And if there isn't any fresh seafood in Ithaca, how do you explain all of the fish that end up on the ice at Lynah Rink once a year?

I've gotten fresh seafood at several places, the latest was Maxie's where they had fresh oysters half off during happy hour - so I loaded up on them. damn good!

who else is getting hungry from reading all this? lol

Speaking of food. When I was back for homecoming this fall, after Chapter House let out for the night, I ordered the most delicious Shaggy of my life. I could have died at that very moment a happy man.

And kids over on other threads are seriously considering BC over Cornell? For shame.

I also like the Boatyard for seafood. It's right by the lake and they try to instill the ambiance of a seafood place (although they serve steaks as well as other things).

The wait is ridiculous as it is very popular and I don't think I have ever spent under $30 for a meal there but it's a nice place to go once or twice a year.

who cares about cornell food! its all about that burrito place (?) aka expensive imitation of chipotle! lol
