The "Free Tuition Fiasco" & Cornell

So as a NYS resident (in high school) I’ve been hearing a lot recently about Cuomo’s proposal to make tuition at state schools free for students under a certain income. While I mostly disagree with this, and think that it’s way too rushed and there are a LOT of things wrong with it, I have one question. Do you think this is going to affect Cornell’s state endowed colleges?

I honestly don’t really know the specifics of how these colleges get money from the NYS government, or how much they get; all I really know is that the tuition is cheaper there for NYS residents because the programs are somehow partially funded by the government. If there is less money going into SUNY schools from students, that means there has to be more money going in from the government. If the government will be paying the tuition for thousands of students at state schools, I don’t think it’s logical that they will continue to fund Cornell at all. I mean if you think about it, that’s a LOT of students they’re paying for, if it’s everyone under $125,000 as an income. Then again, I don’t really know much about how the land grant colleges at Cornell work, I was just curious if anyone who knows more about them has any insight on this?

No idea about the “free tuition” thing though, sorry…
