I did so much practice for this test and with the exception of science (which I made a separate post about) I honestly felt totally unprepared for this test.

Does anyone else feel:

1.) The test was too hard
2.) The math was insane
3.) The Red Book was TERRIBLE preparation

I know I'm venting, but this test came out of nowhere and destroyed even the smartest people I know. Who else feels the same way?

As someone who has taken the ACT three times now including the June one, I do agree that it was on the harder end, however I don’t think it was the hardest ever. The English section was standard if not easier than the April test, and the Science was iffy. But I do agree that the Math and Reading, Math especially, was very hard. I scored a 34 on the Math last test and this time I know I have missed at least 3 from verifying on this forum, and I also worked until the last second. Not sure though. It was definately a weird one.

I’m a bit disappointed in myself. Yes, I agree, I thought it was quite difficult, but I exited the test with a good amount of confidence. However, after looking at the forum, I’ve found that I missed 3 math problems. That equates to a 34 on math with a decent curve.

On the other hand, I have yet to find any mistakes on English, science, or reading. I’m expecting a 35 but hoping for a 36 if math is generously curved! Good luck to everyone! :)

Hi can you two help me out. Your confidence in your scores tells me that ypu two get pretty high in the 30s for the ACT. I too am looking for such scores. Can you two tell me what you guys did or dobto prepare for the test. Books? Videos? Which ones specifically?

The ACT “Red Book” really helps. Also, Barron’s “ACT 36” book is pretty helpful. But any practice book other than the Red Book is usually wildly inaccurate in the types of questions it offers. Honestly, a good night’s sleep and confidence walking into the testing center is enough to turn a 30 into a 33.

I guess I felt the opposite, all the tests in the red book were harder to me than the actual one. I definitely think I was prepared using those tests! I had 10 mins at the end of almost every section except science!

yeah reading wasn’t that bad actually. and there weren’t any math i was completely lost on, more of i took too much time on a few and ended up putting a wrong answer when i knew the right one before hand. it was just a weird feeling test

My son has taken 4 times with this and his comments were thr the Math section was the most difficult that he has seen. Didn’t have time to finish it. Had to guess the last 4. His point was that the problems were not that difficult but the questions keep throwing off and by the time he figured it out he wasted too much time.

yea i agree with u ^@IWillKillForMit. The reading section was incredibly hard. the passages were incredibly boring. I zoned out through most of it… :/

I thought it was easy. Math was a complete joke as usual, didn’t even use a calculator. Science required a little bit more effort but everything else was as usual.

It was my first time taking it. I scored 33+ on every test in the Red Book, so I went in confident aiming 34+. The first English section was my strongest as usual, I think I got 35/36. Then came the math…I guessed on about 10 questions. My self-esteem was abased. I tried to tell myself in between math and reading not to give up, even though reading and science are my weakest. While I was doing the reading, I kept getting distracted at the thought of getting <30 for math, which threw me off totally. I was up to #20 when there were 7 min, so I just said f*** this. I bubbled in the rest of the reading C’s. I didn’t even open the sci; I drew a design on my answer sheet. My essay was basically a vent sesh.
I am not sure if I sure be disappointed in the Red Book, ACT company, or myself. Oh well, #YOLO
