The honor college acceptance

when will it be announced?

My son applied and we are anxiously waiting to hear, too. I’m wondering if it will be by mail or email. I also read somewhere that students in the Honors College get a $2000 stipend towards their dorm.

no news yet?

No news. Maybe they are waiting for more acceptances to go out and for students to do their intent to register.

@jcinoc

so you think we won’t know about KHC until we do the SIR?? D:

Lolleen, I really have no idea. I was thinking it would be smart of them to wait until after May 1, actually, so they don’t accept a bunch of students that end up enrolling in other schools anyway. Another poster thought we might hear in April, though. I’ve scoured the internet and found nothing. Maybe I should call and ask!

My son is waiting, too…

He was not accepted to UCSD (as of yesterday), but had he been, the decision of whether to attend UCSD or CPP might have hinged on his KHC acceptance. We’re sending in his SIR tomorrow, but I hope we don’t have to wait too much longer to find out! We’re tired of waiting on others to decide stuff.

;-)

@jcinoc oh okay, i gotcha now. if you do call, please let us know. :)

What’s the advantage of being part of the KHC?

@csuchopeful this isn’t everything, but from what i remember from the showcase…

smaller class sizes, discussion-style classes, four year pledge (or maybe that’s for all students?) that allows you to register for classes earlier and graduate in four years, the choice of staying in the khc dorm exclusively for khc students which gives you access to these study sessions or whatever (basically, you get to hold study sessions or…something)

lol hopefully that helped :/

My son got rejected :frowning: He really wanted to be in the smaller honors classes, too.

This email came today -

Dear XX,

I regret to inform you the selection committee chose not to offer you admission to the Kellogg Honors College. This decision was based on recommendations from Cal Poly Pomona faculty who reviewed each application thoroughly. This was a difficult decision as we received over 300 applications from highly qualified students such as yourself. If you continue to have interest in the Kellogg Honors College and choose to attend Cal Poly Pomona, you will have another opportunity to apply at the end of your first academic year (late Spring 2012). Please accept my very best wishes for your studies and future career.

Yours sincerely,

Suketu Bhavsar
Director of the Kellogg Honors College
Professor of Physics
