The "I got in without a 2300" club (uber UBER-exclusive!)

Mugsey: what's your score out of 2400?

Yay count me in, i love threads like these

C 690, M 700, W 760

International student who asked for almost a full ride

In at Mount Holyoke, waitlisted at Connecticut College, rejected at five other shools, just recently found out that I have a place at Wesleyan (long and complicated story). If financial aid goes well I'll be attending Wes, my first choice.

I had pretty crappy grades (no A's junior and senior year, but I did attend an academically rigorous school notorious for grade deflation.. my final marks were just okay but they don't count for admission), okay ECs, dunno about teacher and counsellor recs. I think the adcoms appreciated my "international" experience most. I wouldn't say my essays were fantastic nor bad, but I did try to convey my personality in them; I used my own "voice", if you know what I mean.

670 on writing so a 2120

I'd say match at UNC, UVA, and Emory, though UNC and UVA will be tough for anyone applying OOS.

Cornell and Penn are reaches, but doable. Good luck!

thanks! i thought about retaking but not worth it for cr and writing. im taking acts in a few weeks so if those go well ill submit them as well.

"^^congrats, those are some awesome, amazing schools! which one did you choose and why?"

I chose Duke over Princeton. Academically, the schools are comparable. And when I visited both, Duke just felt more at home. I think I just love the South too much haha. Nice weather, nice women, good (heart-attack inducing) food.

To the comment about minorities, you are right. Sadly, for me anyway, being indian is hardly a minority >.< On the contrary, it's 10x harder!

Basically, get your scores and don't count on getting in without a 2100.

bleedblue: i would have done the same thing, just cuz i'm a big school-spirit/sports person. so congrats!

I really love this thread, as I'm level 3(2060) junior hoping for Columbia, Georgetown, and Duke. Good luck all.

What are some good schools with open curriculum policies?

I hate math, science (except paleontology and astronomy), and foreign language study, and if I go to a school with an open curriculum, I'll be done with those subjects forever.

What do I do?

^^Ummm, I think Brown ...?

Level 4 (2290...)

Got into UPenn, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Pomona, Wash U, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt

Going to Duke this fall :)

Level 4 - Harvard, non-minority, non-athlete, non-legacy

oh my god,u guys applied to college already?!
im waiting till october haha.

Level 2, but going to move on to high level 3 for sure, maybe low level 4.

To Zuitar: Your daughter seems to have strong extracurriculars and a good SAT score. Different Schools have different qualities that they are looking for and a good essay can't hurt. I suggest looking at some prospective colleges and see what they want. Good Luck!

actually we're seniors ^_^

I got into Duke, Vandy, UALR Donaghey, Hendrix, and waitlisted at Cornell with a wimpy 2000 SAT. I'm white, non-legacy, and I applied for financial aid.

I did have really strong ECs and a 33 ACT though :P

well, these scores are giving me quite a bit of hope, but let's face it, there must be SOMETHING else you guys did correctly. how indepth did you guys go with extracurricular. i mean, if some of the top "2300's" students are applying, and you're a level 3 or 2, then you must be supplementing your resume somehow. my question is what is that supplement? did you volunteer like crazy, did you find the cure for AIDS? haha. would appreciate if you could elaborate on your qualifications!!!

Thanks!!!

are you serious? 1950, and accepted into all of those? now what else have you been doing-finding the cure for AIDS?

desi: of course! After all, you have to write down quite a bit more on the college app than just the SAT scores section. For any top school, whether you have a 1900 or a 2200, you need to be well-rounded. Obviously no one has found a cure for AIDS...you mentioned that twice...because otherwise we'd have seen thae headline by now. But acceptees to top schools are talented, passionate, and driven. Look beyond the GPA and test scores, and you'll be at the head of the right trail. good luck!
