The Impacts of Withdrawals after getting Accepted?

There is obviously a lot of different situations between the reactions of admissions at different UC’s, and whether or not the class you are dropping are impacted or not?

After reading this thread and many threads before it, I’ve come to the conclusion that dropping a class without maintaining 60 transferable semester units is an automatic rejection from the UC’s.

Subsequently, dropping classes that are major pre-req courses for your major listed under assist is also a large detrimental factor.

For me, the UCSD offices have been very vague in their answer. I’m going to keep trying to call them and get more specifics but if anyone on this forum could help me out, it will be very beneficial.

I was bedridden for 2 weeks missing a large chunk of work that is unable to be made up. I emailed my professors about my situation and they gave me work I could do for partial credit but heavily advised that I missed way too much important lecture information. They advised me to take the W and retake it.

For me, I finished up my IGETC requirements, and I’ll have over the 60 transferable unit amount after this semester. I am open to taking the W and retaking the classes over the summer because of my stupid illness that deterred me. These courses have somewhat to do with my major in terms of subject discussion but are not major classes that I need. How do you think UCSD will react to my situation. Will dropping two classes due to being out sick lead to me getting rescinded. These classes are just extra units I took out of interest for the semester

I don’t know if this helps, but last year I withdrew from a major pre-req (DE) and was still admitted (CPP for MechE). I still don’t have that class finished due to unsuccessful petitioning and was just admitted to UCSD. I’m actually missing like 4 or 5 assist.org classes.

@Doisys do you mind if I ask, if you were admitted even if you withdrew from a major pre-req, why didn’t you attend? When you said you were still admitted, what school were you talking about?

I was just about to post a similar thread. Glad I saw this one.

I am in a similar situation in that I took a class just because of interest, but the class was terrible and I have been extremely busy with my other classes. I have all requirements met (with leaps and bounds) and it’s not a pre-req, it’s just a class I took on the side that I’m not enjoying and thus am unmotivated to finish it. I’ll be calling admissions tomorrow to see if dropping will effect my admissions decision.

Does anybody know what’s going on with this?

@CreateAndDestroy Called UCSD again; finally found a really helpful young woman. Told her my situation, down to the every specific detail with the whole “it’s not a prereq and I’m not using it to satisfy IGETC requirments”. She told me that I should be fine. Quotes: "As long as it’s what you say: the courses aren’t English or Math/ Aren’t IGETC fulfilling/Aren’t Major Courses and you have 60/90 Transferable units at the end of the Spring semester, you should be fine.
Welp, That’s the answer everyone for all those concerning. I’ll be sending a replica email and calling again just to make sure that’s the admission officer’s thoughts.

Thanks for the reaponse, but the “should” wording makes me hella nervous. I’ll be calling tomorrow and making sure. I can’t even believe I’m even considering dropping a class but it is one of the least organized and informative classes I’ve ever taken. Ughhhh

@bigproblemhere I did attend, but dropped out shortly after. I couldn’t handle the commute to cal poly. My goal was to go to cal poly over a UC to save money, but it ended up not even being worth it. Decided to stay at CC for another year and try my luck with the UCs.

If you have your units, your major prep and IGETC, they will not care about a W.

I updated my application with a W and Im still waiting for a reply. Really hoping it doesn’t affect my admission though

@CreateAndDestroy I’m sure we will both be fine. Lmk if the UC’s tell you something different, as will I.

Dropping the class did not impact my admission status to UCSD because I had enough credits to transfer without it and it was not required for my major.
