Whenever I feel that I’m not gonna get in my reaches… I start looking at the good things about Purdue … thinking ‘Its not that bad’ … :)

You know, Purdue is a nice college! Especially for engineering. I don’t know why everyone keeps on rubbishing it.

^ * cuz, v think v r too good for schools that accept > 50% of applicants. Heck, just $50 application fee. Why not? More the merrier. Just scribble something and send and you will get in. *

Yeah, its rep. is pretty bad here …
Purdue = Indians + Indianians

My dad was once a visiting faculty at Purdue, and he told me, Purdue should be a last resort… somehow, it dosen’t have a great vibe, with all this negativity doing the rounds…

Can someone tell me how is Colgate viewed? I mean a friend of mine told me they have pretty dorms!( Yuck!)

LOL I got a mail from them when I got accepted that said:

’ Congratulations! You are now a boilermaker’

Now that you mention colgate …
Colgate has this question on the FAQ section. I don’t remember the exact words but it’s somewhat like this …

EDIT: My 200th post !!!

I have heard only positive things about Colgate. My perception is that it is a very good launch pad for graduate studies in business/economics.

[-quote]Congratulations! You are now a boilermaker’

ROFL!! Imagine getting this on 1st April, you’d be confused if it’s a joke or an acceptance letter…

Colgate… I mean, I know over achievers don’t flock to colgate ,but still , what are the students like??

No info on colgate

What’s your major despo?

Colgate’s a really good university from everything I’ve heard. Their academics are stellar, they have a beautiful campus, and they generally maintain a balance between a small liberal arts school and a big university. I’m applying there after I talked to the admissions officer when he came to my school. However, there is a guy from my school there right now and he’s not very happy there. From what I’ve heard, academics wise it’s ok but the social life’s more confined than he expected. The campus is not in a big city-it’s a small town so everything revolves around the campus. His case is a bit complicated, but basically he’s considering transferring to the UK. So yes, do consider the setting.

I don’t know much about Colgate to have my own views. What people tell me is that Colgate is like an Ivy league school without any pretentiousness. Students there don’t have Ivy reject mentality/inferiority complex like in Tufts or Brandeis. They are bright but not intensely ambitious like in Ivy.

Agreed pretty much with what Tippu said. Colgate is a great school overall. The only thing that hurts is the fact that it’s in a small town. If that doesn’t make you feel overly claustrophobic, then go ahead and apply.

From what a Colgate current student tells me, people have a mug of beer in their hands all the time… its like a really party-till-death kinda college, and that makes me apprehensive, the foremost consideration for me is a good academic environment, location and stuff , well , one can’t ask for everything…

I mean parties and all are fine, but yeah, I wouldn’t want to end up partying every weekend of college life, I mean there’s so much more to do… but if its a general culture of sorts, I wonder how long you can remain a exception …
Same goes for the other party-colleges out there…like UCSB

@compscifan- my major will most probably be bioengineering/ genetics or the like, changes acc. to the college!..;)

Does having a 2300 sat score guarantee an admission in an ivy league or similar college?

What do you think?

Only thing anyone can say about this is that you won’t be denied admission because of your scores. People keep arguing about the threshold above which scores don’t matter. I think CC sampling is too sparse to come to any conclusion. My observation is that anything above 2200 is generally considered very good. At places like MIT and CalTech most admitted students have 800 in Math.

Nothing guarantees admission to an Ivy. Your SAT scores are just one part of your entire profile and a 2300 can’t overshadow an otherwise crap application. I would’ve thought that was obvious from looking at all the Ivy forums here on CC?

Yea i guess it won’t guarantee admission but can I am hoping that it might partially shadow a couple of weak aspects of my application?

It would … but not with the ivies.
