The Indian Thread #20

^You got another astrophysics lover, buddy. Fascinating, as I always remark about it.

count me in guys!!! astro ftw ! :D

@perfectprashant - aashish arora? :P

WoW never thought I would get other companions too !!

@iamtehbist : ya i know him , whenever i attended his class , i used to sleep because his voice never reached me :-/ lol …

@perfectprashant - lol! i studied from him for 7 - 8 months lol! he taught well btw :P

So it’s decided!

June+July = Finish Both Volumes of RD Sharma (just to keep grades high at new school)

August+September = Concentrate on School and Revise 11th CBSE Physics/Chem for Subject Tests in October.

October = Give 3 subject tests. And refurbish SAT 1 skills.

November = Retake SAT 1.

September onwards ask 2016ers and a few very helpful 2015ers about the intricacies of the admissions process :)

Oh and all this while, I never forget that I changed to a new school in grade 12. To a different continent. So I have to keep my grades up and impress teachers for awesome recs :)

It feels so good to just type out all that. Feels organised.

@Tizil7 - you have cbse there?? btw good luck :)

@iamthebist - its seems we are in the same boat. i am also going for sat reasoning in oct and sat subjects in nov. i am going to applying to around 5-6 top tiers and 3-4 average and safe ones. do you think we are gonna have enough time to write essays for so many schools? cuz for most schools, the deadlines are like in december or 1st of jan? im so worried!

@dilettante800 - Well, i think it shouldnt take a lot of time. I am free these days (vacation time), so I’m trying to prepare some essays beforehand. And, the deadlines are quite far… dont worry :)

Nope, I’ve taken up a combination of IB/AP courses. But CBSE ftw, isn’t it? It prepares you for everything :D

help me guys !
at some SAT preparation site , i read that the probability of getting a scholarship is very very very less. Is that true. If yes , i am gone :-(

scholarship, yes. Aid, no.

I leave it to someone more experienced than me to elaborate ;)

scholarships and aid are not the same thing. its true that scholarships are rare but financial aid is much more available, though it varies from college to college.
Infact, loan is another good alternative, you can look into.
Well, just try and keep your options open, man :)

Hello!
I’m another 2016’er, currently in class 12.
I’ve given the SAT twice, Dec’10(score - 2010) and June’11(result awaited).
Giving the TOEFL in end-June.
Haven’t started any essays yet, they seem to be a daunting task. :expressionless:
I’m applying to GTech, UIUC, UMich, UCLA, UCB, Cornell, CMU, Penn State, Purdue etc. for Computer Engineering.
I had a CGPA of 8.6 in my Class X Board Exams.
Class XI was… depressing. :frowning:
Dream School - CMU. :P

Hey CEMaverick…
I am not trying to add fuel to your fire…but may I know what was your percent% in class XI? …
and by the way, i am going for more or less the same colleges and major as you, really!

@CEMaverck : your profile seems great. 2010 is not a bad score . And I am sure you will score higher in the June test !! I have taken the same and expect a good score !! And I am computer science too !! And applying to just the same schools  !! So your sat had 3 CW section or did u get some other set ?? Anyway mine had 3 and one was expirimental !! Still wondering which was :stuck_out_tongue: !! And my Xth CGPA : 9.8 (Lost A1 for English) !! And 11th ,yes it’s depressing ,but yet 85% aggregate … Cya … I hope we would meet soon maybe in UiUC !! :-D

Depending on the school 30% - 60% of the incoming class could get aid. This depends on a variety of factors including the university budget and your application timeline.

Please read up on financial aid, sometimes it is more about knowing what exists then you pedigree ( aid vs. scholarship)

Top-5 alumni
Education Counselor, New Delhi

Oh since we are talking about %
I got a 9.4 in X boards. (French for the lose, others A1 <3 )
and 83% in XI (depressing, yes)
XII - Let’s see ;)

Thepositive, nice CGPA! envious

Yeah! CBSE rules! except for the fact it isn’t recognized globally…take for example oxford, cambridge and lse…i cant apply there :(

yeah…I got a 9.4 too :frowning:
A2 in english (least expected…not flaunting but yeah, my english was the best :frowning: )
B1 in french (again unexpected!!! according to me, i was losing 2 - 3 marks only! )

11th - 85% lol … screwed xD

Hi guys !! I just spoke about it because I saw it on Mevricks post !! Anyway all of you guys have great record too !! So where are guys from … I am from Kerala . Did all of you take sat already and get ur results or are you guys waiting for ur result like me ??

Hahaha! I was thinking that my French paper was flawless. Looks like the examiner thought differently. Thanks B1. :P

Thanks  I’m from New Delhi. Applying from Brussels.
