The Indian Thread #20

@veethiv- God this is getting hilarious. Let me put it this way. In march 2010, i gave my 10th board exams, ditto 11th, and in march 2012 i will be giving my 12th boards. So in 2010 i was technically in 10th
@Karan- It is absolutely amazing. I left off at the 50-pg speech and haven’t gotten round to completing the last bit yet. Yes, i KNOW! I’ve preordered it xD.
@Prashant- i guess you can give ONE test each, free. But i’m not sure.

And everyone, please answer my earlier question! (my first post). Thanks :)

@cobalt: although school websites and adcoms keep going on about the ‘holistic’ admissions process, standardised scores matter a great deal in case of international applicants because they don’t know our system as well as the US one. So if you think you can push up your math score significantly, you should give it a shot again in december (deadline test date for RD in most colleges)
Btw are you taking the sat literature test,if yes how do you prepare for it. I am using the Barron’s guide and facing some difficulty. Haven’t got above 42 yet.

@Karan- well my preboards and full-portion tests will start late November, so theres no chance for a re-test! Do you think, regarding my interest/strength in the Arts subjects, they will overlook the low math scores?
Well, my converted scores have fluctuated a little. I have taken 5 so far, my best score was 760 and worst 670. I practiced from the Kaplan book. The only problem was learning the terms; Indian schools do not teach you about sonnets/anaphora/apostrophe/villianelles/blablabla. I looked up the lists on the net.
You also need to practice analysis of passages; that needs just practice.
I would say just concentrate on these two, you will do fine!
All the best
And everybody else- Yeees just a week left!! @Dark&Down- haha i loved how you put it. Totally fits xD Let’s hope we all do well!
How much are you expecting, personally? :)

@fall2016parent- I am applying to both. And yes I do live in a city with an USIEF center. I’ll go and meet them. Thanks for the advice both.

BTW anyone applying to Claremont McKenna?

hey guysss  this is unrelated, but i know where udupi is! haha sorry for interrupting :/

I agree actually. I have no clue how i messed up the MATH. But you can’t really control your subconscious expectaions- they’re there deep inside! :P

^ True: Expectations are a part and parcel of every test.

So, anyone else, except perfectprashant, taking (I’m always in confusion when it comes to ‘giving a test’ and ‘taking a test’. Well that can bring up another thread all together ) the SAT or the SAT-II in November?

@perfectprashant: Darkanddown is right. Collegeboard practice tests help little ( or provide no help at all). Try Princeton Review or Barrons.

@cobalt: i am trying to get a hang of the terms but still haven’t understood the iambic pentameter. How the f am i supposed to know when a syllable is stressed?? :stuck_out_tongue: And about the retest, you can take it if you beleive your maths is very strong and you can push up the score without much effort. And my knowledge of LACs isn’t much so i can’t help much. but you can check their percentile ranges for sat maths. best of luck for the tests.
Off topic: anyone lucky enough to watch f1 on the track??

Is anyone applying ED to Mount Holyoke College?

@darkdown: though f1 cars are primarily designed to not drift (great traction and grip),but if it ever happened it would be really really EPIC.
@akitheerp: subject tests in november.
@veethiv: if you want aid, don’t apply ED. it is binding and you won’t be able to compare aid packages.

Yes, taking in Nov. And very nervous because i screwed SAT 1 up :frowning:
@Karan- haha i know! I hate the syllable-related terms too. If there are 5 pairs of 2 sylls each in a line, its USUALLY the iambic pentameter, without having to worry about the stresses. And I’m not sure whether my CR and WR scores will be sustained if i give it again, even if math goes up. Plus i have barely any time to prepare. But thanks for the advice :)

Iambic Pentameter, Italian Sonnet, Shakespearean Sonnet, Villanelle, Eulogy, …

Are you guys taking the SAT Lit Test? Because I am sure I have seen these terms only in AP Lit.

@cobalt: haha that seems right, they aren’t going to throw any other 5 syllable trickery at us
@everyone: can you people tell where you live in india, it would be nice to know. i am in ludhiana, punjab.

In the international forum, India seems to be the only active country. lol

darkdown: as far as colour goes,my fav. Is ferrari. awedome classy red.
Veethiv: ya i noticed that too,btw you haven’t mentioned you location yet.

Seeing that it is the only country with a golden-yellow dot next to it whenever I log on only seems to cement that opinion.

Pointless Rants:

 1. ARGH! Supplements.
 2. SAT … so … … close! :O

Yes we are. I actually LOVED learning these terms!
I just started studying a week or so back. Chem seems quite okay, Lit needs practice :frowning: What about all of you?

I have been in Patna for the past two years, so this would be my current location. Oh and Patna is in Bihar. haha.

^^Wooo we did not know that. :stuck_out_tongue: Just kidding.

no wonder. It is the only country in the international forum with 1.2billion+ population. (except china, but communicating in english isn’t a natural thing for chinese as it is for indians)
