The Indian Thread #20

“Curing cancer was no mean feat. When I did it I had to stop smoking weed and research for 2 goddamned hours. Can you believe it? 2 hours. So much time. But now, in hindsight, I think it was worth it. Even though it meant cutting down my plan of growing plants on mars while reading the bible backwards. After all there is so much a man can do.”

Excerpt from my essay (backup one lol)

^ Made me crack up hahahah :D

I wish I could be half as productive as you :)

Well, work’s piling up again. See you guys in december.

I’m interested in knowing what Eminemfan wants to study though. Just curious.

Do the SAT1 and SAT2 scores get sent together or do i have to pay separately for both? I just signed up for sending scores to 4 additional colls, but the score history is not showing my free score colls. Is that normal, or did something go wrong? :(

@Karan- LMAO. I think youll have the readers of your essay hanging off their chairs :P

@karan: I am wondering what your essay really conveys about you except a sense of humour? I am certainly not competent enough to criticize your work, but I would have thought that the essay is meant to tell something about you. The fact that you have a sense of humour is, in my opinion, an accessory feature that you can embed in an essay which actually says something meaningful about you.
Just my humble opinion though.

^I’m just guessing, but I think he has more to the essay than just 5 lines o_o we don’t know what the rest of his essay conveys you know!

@AleaJacta: Don’t worry mate, its just some fun. I’ll use it on one of the supplements, if I even use it.
@dreamlord: You are right that there is more to the essay, but unfortunately its all like this  BTW how goes your quest to USIEF?

Hah, didn’t go again. I live in Gurgaon so its a PITA to be able to take out the time to travel for 2 hours to Delhi :|

@dreamlord: Yes commuting is indeed PITA, but I thought Gurgaon-Delhi took 45 minutes. Guess I was wrong.

LOL Karan :stuck_out_tongue: Come to think of it, that is so him :open_mouth: *shakes head *

@Cobalt: How far are you on your essays? Any luck coping up with the huge amount of stuff needed to be done? Applying sucks. I’ll be so glad come 1st Jan.

45 minutes on a good day. 1 hour on a normal one.

I’ve a very deep interest in Mathematics and Physics, especially Cosmology and Astrophysics, one or both of which I’m planning to pursue as a career. Haven’t really decided whether I’d major in Mathematics or Physics though. I guess that will depend on where I get admitted. In US, probably Physics, in UK, probably Mathematics, or in India, the one which looks more promising.

Haha I am in 11th. Just why you were curious, pp? :p

17 years of travel between the two cities has taught me that before the expressway was built through Mahipalpur, it could easily take anywhere from 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. However, in the past 3-4 years, It consistently takes only about 45 minutes - 1 hour, with the only congestion at the toll booth :P

Um… … How’s everyones supplements going? I don’t like the CA supplements.

Tizil, I absolutely hate the CA supplements.

About Gurgaon-Delhi, last month I covered the dist. in 35 minutes. But it was 6 am and no rush. Plus I had to catch a train. :D

Also has anyone contacted their EC for the MIT interview yet? I sent him a mail 3 days ago. No reply as of now. What should I do?

lol it’s amazing how CC just makes people who get less than 2000 on the SATs go into depression.

Hello, with all this talk about ECs and people thinking of going to the extent of faking things, I thought I’d just make a point here. I was an applicant with full financial need and very average ECs. I had NOTHING that was even state level. No awards in short. But I think I managed to get across in my essay how much the couple of ECs I did have meant to me, and what I did as a part of them(one was dance and the other was social work-related). You might feel inadequate compared to other applicants who do have them, but if you manage to project an image of yourself as a well-rounded person who made the most of what was available to them, it shouldn’t matter. I am sure if you don’t go to one of those schools in India which do have a lot of scope for extracurricular(because mine didn’t), it doesn’t mean a whole lot. My school had no club or society of any sort, but one of my fellow-applicants made up a math club on his application. He already had an international award(very well recognized one, I won’t name it because it might give away his identity), but he still felt the need to do this. He pretty much got rejected everywhere. Although I did not have any ECs even close to his, I got in here and waitlisted at Amherst and Columbia(I hadn’t applied to any other ivies). So, I believe that honesty pays.
