The Indian Thread #23 ( Class of 2019 admissions )

@shystarryskies then im sorry to inform you that bro
11 and 12 is reported in percentages

@vanshmurad Considering I’ve already sent in my ED app, I’m quite sure my school has done it in grades. I have hard copies of all my transcripts.
I talked to my counselor today as well, and that’s how it’s done for all the schools here. I’m in a CBSE school abroad though, if that makes a difference.

yes I am taking the December ACT and anyone got an interview from Harvard?

Please Help
Should the counselor upload only 1 document having all the marks or 3 different docs for each report( School, Mid Year, Final)

Hi Guys!

This is Mohith, a student under the Faculty of Social Sciences at HKU. Feel free to post any queries regarding HKU and life in HK, I will try my best to answer your queries!

i heard that the indian quota for stanford has already been filled. dont no whether it is worth applying right now

There are no quotas at Stanford. It is self-selecting.

@TechieCSG‌
they aren’t going to take 50/170 indians are they.

nor are they going to fill their entire class with computer science guys are they???
they most definitely dont have specific numbers associated, but they keep a close look out

as far as i am concerned, all u guys should keep more effort into MIT (because they dont have EA and all spots are open , need blind financial aid)

@thekoolkid‌ There is no such thing as an “indian quota” at Stanford or for that matter, any university in the US. It is true that very few people get accepted every year, but it is not like only a fixed number of people get accepted each year. The people who get accepted, excel in each and every aspect - academics, standardised tests, ECs, essays etc. And believe it or not, there are only a handful of people who fall in the above category. Those who do, get accepted and those who do not, get rejected. If you are a part of the group of students that excel in each and every aspect, apply, you will surely get accepted. If you aren’t, you will get rejected. You need to be one of the best if you want to get accepted at Stanford and the likes. There is no excuse as “XYZ quota” for not getting accepted.
That being said, I would encourage you to apply if you feel that you can make the cut for Stanford’s class of 2019. Why stop when 30,000 students aren’t going to stop.

Of course there’s no strict “quota”. That would be all out racist. But I can think of a lot of excellent Indian kids who were rejected, who probably would have been accepted had they been white/not Indian. So, there is an informal quota. They evaluate all the Indian kids in a separate sitting and choose the best of them. They don’t have a fixed number but they do have a ballpark. Sometimes, they’ll admit 30-35, sometime they’ll admit more if the pool is unusually strong.

of course their is no quota for each country and universities take a person based on the person; however, it should be noted that no elite university is going take a lot of people from a particular race

Gujarati and Malyali is different race?

@thekoolkid‌ there is no quota
