The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

At all the colleges you have mentioned Indian are ORMs, Babson and Rutgers are not well known in India so i would expect that most of the Indians there are Desis; At rest of the colleges inidan population should be in Hundred's.

There's no Language Requirement for getting Visas, not even for a F-1 visa.
There are parts of US where English speaking population is in Minority, it's not logical to impose a language restriction for people going there. In addition a 80 year old Grandma can’t be expected to clear TOEFL before visiting her Grandson..
After 9/11 it was feared that students without standardized tests may be denied visa as they maybe classified as Non-Serious. The consulate has then many a times clarified that Standardized test aren’t required for F-1 Visas(or for any other Visa).

A memoir for the essay section?

How is a memoir for an essay? I have written it independently, though now I feel it will be perect for the first prompt which asks for 'a significant personal exprience you have faced and its impact on you.'

I am good writer, but I feel this one still needs a lot of work. I would love some criticism. Also if someone could suggest an alternate title...

If anyone is interested PM me. I would love the feedback.

Thanks!

Babson - low

The Mexicans are doing pretty well for themselves here in the US considering that some of them dont speak a word of english.

No need to be so rude karan.. As long as he understands English and is understood, he wont have a major problem here in the US! Writing skills can be improved..

or.... you could CRY MORE?

What are you talking about?

Is anyone using the commonapp? If so, are you guys using their Teacher Rec forms and Mid year Report forms or those of the colleges?

@Karan89 : We're here to help one another out. There is no need for rudeness. And that wasn't such a big mistake either.

karan89:Hey Mr.English,I wrote it on purpose..just wanna know how do you lot catch english error...as you have caught the error, tell me the DIFFERENCE in GIVING a test and TAKING a test!(only if you are good enough!)

there, fixed that up to make a little bit of grammatical sense.

giving a test means nothing at all. it literally means to 'give' someone a test. for example, a teacher giving out a test paper to her class (even that definition is edgy).

taking a test means doing a test.

lol.......

karan: "Giving a test" is a common expression in India. It is a literal translation of what you would say in your native language. Not a big difference....as others have suggested don't be rude.
