The Indian Thread (TiT) # 15

Talkin bout SAT1.....well,I didnt got much time either....hav given for the first time on Dec.2................expectin worst........so,ur not alone....hehe.....

Hmmm...cant comment much, coz I havnt gone that deep in those.......

cummon buddy i am sure ur gonna score high....

Hey,Ankur, hav u taken a gap yr or gone straight ahead there?

doiknowu:Hehe........21st Dec. will reveal it all.......

@issac: Almost EVERY college requires 11th grades.

we will c issac.....

Lakshya M:Well, may b my information is incorrect, but as far as I hav seen, unis want our secondary school marksheet(transcript..)(class Vth) and High School marksheet(transcript)(class XIITH)(coz I hav that..)...
It is not mentiond anywhere that int'ls(or more specifically Indians) should submit their XIth or IX grades...well,to confirm...Iwould like u to ask some oldies here(Hope u hav their email address..)..
And to tell u,my XIth grades r no where to b seen currently.....:D....

I hav a confusion regardin the ''mid-year'' reports....
am I ''required'' to submit that??coz I already hav XIIth marks...n they r ''generally'' required for the students who R in XIIth/high school....????

Secondary School??
Almost no college is interested in your Middle school record (Grad 5-8).
I'm very certain in saying that they all definitely require Grades 9-12, for Indians, Grade 12 1st term. As for Mid years, I'm sending Prelim marks.

Since there seems to be a lot of confusion with regard to the transcript, I thought it would be useful if I describe what my school's transcript is like. (Its been sending students to the US for years and has a standard format that was created out of discussion with colleges in the US.

1st Page: An Explanation of the ISC and ICSE Boards, where they've recognized and a bit about the history of their formation, their status in India etc. and a little about the school: mission, prestige, results, competitiveness etc.

2nd Page: Explanation of choice of subjects available in 9th, what I've chosen, and cumulative averages from all three terms + average.

3rd Page: Explanation of the Board exams (external examiners, marks sent to India, etc.) and only the marks in the Board with my average and rank in school (94.2 btw)

4th Page: Explanation of choice of ISC streams, subjects offered in each stream, what I've chosen, and average of marks in three terms, marks in three terms.

5th Page: List of Syllabi in tiny print for 12th Grade ISC in brief, listing major topics covered.

6th Page: Marks in 1st Term of 12th Grade, explanation of when my boards are going to be.

signed by the Dean of Studies (Guidance Counsellor)

In addition, the Dean in consultation with Senior Supervisor, House Master, Class teacher, Principal and Headmaster writes a reco that either signed by the Principal or the Dean depending upon whether he knows you or not.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

after reading this I think I am in a BIG problem... you have created more problems for me then before... but still great advice.

Ok for those of who have poor transcripts like me, I suggest sending ^ only the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th page,

Wat the.............!@#$%^&*
Damn do ANY college require 9th n 11th grades??
Coz I hav only seen things written on apps that u r requird to submit ur Secondary school transcript and High school transcript........no mention of 9th or 11th grade.....
N my question is still unanswerd.....am I required to send the ''mid-year'' school report?coz I am a pass-out already, and as far as I know, this report is required only for currently school attending students who dont hav their XIIth final marks.......?????

As u hav forced the issue...I really hav to RE-RE-READ the Stanford prospectus....(hehe..thats the only prospectus I hav..lol..).....

colleges typically want 4 years of grades (class 9-12) to constitute a complete transcript.
But you can also send only 10(board results)-12 and they'll accept that.
(which is what I did since my school 9-10 marks were much lower than what I got in my board exams)

My understanding is that High School transcript implies the whole of your High School career i.e 9-12. Since colleges only have 4 years of your schooling to judge you, I don't think they'd accept only 2.
Isaac, I suppose since you've already passed out, you just need to send a note in place of your mid year marks, saying that as you've passes out, there are no mid year marks for you to give!

I suppose you could however replace grade 10 marks in school with the board marks and add an explanatory note with your 9th, 11th & 12th marks saying that although the syllabi are similar for both internal and board exams, marking is much tougher internally than in the boards. For proof of this you can supply your board marks in 10th along with your term marks and get your GC to countersign.

I further think that as colleges evaluate so many Indian students from CBSE and ISC every year, they have a good idea about marking policies in schools. Since my 9 & 11 marks are goodish, I'm not writing such a note myself, however it is a possible option if you feel that your marks misrepresent your potential. Not sure if it would be viewed as making an excuse or a genuine statement though...

Guys, k_twin is absolutely correct. He has more than sufficiently explained how the transcripts are made. In my school, for Grade 10 we submit the CBSE Board exam results. And we mention that as well, our school logic is that since that is the sole criteria for our promotion. Since there has never been a problem, my school send 5-6 people to universities in the US every year(Including my brother), I guess its fine if you send 10th Board marks. I won't be submitting my 12th quarterly marks though. I'll just send the mid-year report and transcripts of 9-11.

Well,I hav no problem with my 9th marks...instead it will b a booster(a high one),but my 11th marks r a point of worry, coz I hav actually changed my school in 10th......and to tell u,yes the internal markings r DAMN....the highest went only 82% in 11th(I doubt even that..) n in 12th pre-boards...we all got a huge shock....hehe...board marks really proved that thing.....almost 75% of my batch got over 90%!!!(the remaining couldnt coz of the IIT couchings n all..)..so,U can make out things now......

Thanks for that :), were you at the quiz today?

No, I didn't even know about any quiz. My mid-terms are still on, so I guess thats another reason why I don't know about it.

@isaac: Don't worry about 11th marks so much, since you can send your ACTUAL 12th Board marks. If they are good enough, they will definitely offset your low 11th marks.
