Hehe......ya.......well in my whole record...only 11th is the point to b worried most..else is ok/fine........

well i didnt take a gap yr coz i was strongly against it.. and came straight in here..

as of the EC's posted 2 pages before, dude i dunno wat to say, i would only comment on this by saying that well they arent really as exemplar as they sounded.. Loads of people have amazing ec's( i really mean amazing) and well i guess we already have some of those here at TiT#15. I wudnt call those ecs highly spectacular at all.. coz those are all academics mostly . The only thing i see there was sports captain taught illiterate kids..thats all..

read some of the ecs posted by the other posters and u will notice what i mean..

i dont hope to disappoint you bt well i wud repeat again, try answering to urself

" what in my application sets me apart from others and what are my best highlighted strong points? what qualities put me at a competitive level in international standards not state or local or even sometimes national ?"

That would be your answer to most queries..

SM

Hehe..well should b proud of ur decision coz this gap yr really s**ks!!
But its good in another way too(I hav gone insane...n contradictin myself...but still the point should b clearified!)...coz u get a HUGE opportunity to harness our EC records n our add some really prestigious things to ur lives!!!..
n yes agood point SM,I hav almost forgotten to mention that.......
ur ECs should NOT tell only ONE field's achievements....u hav to show ur evry possible EC in variety of fields....hope u go my meaning....
doiknowu:as u wish for improvin SAT scores n want TIME to prepare, better take ACT(although it will not include written test in India...but it will help Ascoms to judge u that u somehow screwd up ur SAT only if u get good score in ACT..I will b takin ACT (without written test) so that it will comensate my SAT scores!!...and to add to the advantage,u can take SAT2 in Jan too.......

smart mind i neva said my ECs were HIGHLY spectacular or so... i just said they were good on my part.... i know people have got amazing talents and stuff... and i know my ecs arent that good especially compared to people on CC..
and issac... thanks for suggesting me about some canadian universities.. i had a tok wid my dad abt them again.. and told him about few universities... he said to keep them as a stand by... and issac could u tell me about SUNY stony brooks...???? heard its amazing...

I disagree with you issac. ECs should show some kind of passion. Thats what they are there for, I don't want to toot my own horn but I am just giving an example. While writing my ECs I mainly concentrated on my speaking and robotics skills. I have participated in many regional robotics competitions, I won the UAE National Robot Olympiad and I also participated in the World Robot Olympiad. Same goes for my speaking, I have taken part in loads of regional competitions(won few awards), as well as 2-3 national speaking competitions. After that, I just mentioned the other stuff like quiz competitions, other science/math stuff. But the colleges know what I really like to do. Just my 2 cents.

Much the same, for me, I've focused upon my two major passions, debating and Quizzing, while emphasizing other interests and activities, film making, student govt, MUN, ad infinitum...

Hmmm......I think u guys need to learn something from the college web sites.....
They say, they want a best ''Well Rounded'' student.......
n u r concentratin on one field only.....
DONT do that thing.........it will really hamper ur chances.....u can mention only 1 or outstandin achievement(s) in a particular field(which r enough to show ur passion n ability)......
U really need to focus on other things too.......
N yes.......SUNY stony brooks is very amazin....(I hav heard the same too..).

Um... I'm sorry IssacNewton, but you might want to read http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=263046 first. Most Colleges want well rounded classes, not necessarily students with many diverse interests.

Well, its ur choice after all...but wat I can say that 1 or 2 EC in a field r wnough to tell ur passion(like the international olympiad or Robotics competition..)....
Else,watever is ur choice...

hey guys wats upp

I wanted to ask how are you guys planning to send your stuff.... anyone using DSL? I called them up... told me they have 50% off for students... so come to about rs950 expensive? yes But very safe and fast - reaches USA in 4 working days ...do we have any other options here?

If you can afford it, go for it. Otherwise use a less costly company that may take more time but can atleast guarantee that the stuff will reach the universities.

i also wanted to ask that question... man 950 is much.. wouldnt want to pay more than 500 for a packet.. r there any companies except DHl which r affordable?

When I'm sending something near the deadline I'm using FEDEX (for my early application), but for the others, either I'll use registered mail, or I'll work out some sort of a bulk order thing with a courier service.

that will be a better option...

Well,I hav plannd to use Indian Speed Post......it cost around 500 per packet........n I wont send 3 packets for a college(separate for recommendation, teacher evalution1,teacher evalution2....for online apps only)..will send only one....lol..all in one for a college......

Since we are international students and most of the colleges understand that international mail takes a long time and there are unexpected delays. They will accept your application even if it arrives late as long as you have posted it before the deadline(Postmark deadline). The thing to worry about is the loss of your mail. That is why you should use a good company/courier.

Well.....although Indian Speed post r not considerd good...but,I hav seen its sevices....its not bad either...I mean it dont provide trackin of ur post but,it does deliever within 10 days....

Seconded, probably it depends upon the effectiveness of your mail service, for instance I wouldn't trust anything to the regular Emirates Post service over here.

Wow...this thread has startd to show-up now......200+ posts in 15 days!!!Nice progress.....lol....:D...
Well,Lakshya n K_twin.........tell me something or evrything...all about how u r goin to fill up ur app(esp. the school part...)...

Well I suppose I could answer on k_twin's behalf,

We've both submitted our early apps, so most of our application work is copy pasting now. Our school's been sending students to US colleges for quite some time now, so they have a well worked out system by now, though we do need to constantly pester our GC to get forms done.

Other than that, do you want to know anything in particular?

The most major problem we are facing would have to be condensing our EC's into a few lines, as they aren't exactly typical. Also due to the lack of any National Merit Societies etc in the UAE, our Academic Honors are a bit school oriented, with only a few national awards.
