K_twin. I was reading back and i noticed you had been straight rejected from Stanford. Same happened to me but from Cornell. Everyone on the CC Cornell forum either got deffered or accepted. And my application wasn't a straight reject. SAT 1940 4A's at A-Level.

Also, my rejection letter (online) was extremely weirdly worded. If you don't mind could you post your letter.

Good Luck with your other apps not that you would need it :)

Obviously I understand that. But I was under the impression that only a few people are rejected while most are deffered (or accepted). Anyways theres nothing to be done now. Heres my rejection

I am sorry to have to share some disappointing news about your early decision application to Cornell. I regret that we are unable to offer you admission to the university. I know that this is not the decision you were hoping for, but please understand that we gave your application very careful consideration. This is a final decision; we will not be moving your application into our regular decision applicant pool.

Lakshya, K_twin you seem like top engineers so you mustve applied to Berkeley. You guys got any kind of info from them? E-mails post?

I know this question wasn't directed at me, inshallah, but from what I've heard from friends, Berkeley has been suspiciously silent on the admissions front until now. (Personally, despite being engineering-hopeful, I didn't apply there; a decision that I am now kicking myself over.)

Anyone heard anything from Cambridge, though?

Thats good to know. Thought i was out of the loop there lol.

No one from our school has heard Cambridge though Oxford has announced their decisions. Good luck with that. Which college you applying to? Did you apply to any other UK schools?

Christ's, Engineering. (I completely love Christ's, because it's small and gorgeous, and I have a thing for old-ish buildings in general. Even though Churchill is really a better sciency option.)

No other UK colleges (Well, Imperial. But I completely forgot that they weren't too fond of Indian high school qualifications, and ended up with the trauma of a rejection for no reason at all. sigh). (Despite being a citizen, which is...faintly stupid of me, yes.) I have a lot riding on the US.

Well I checked the Berkeley site, it says that they'll give out results at around the same time as the normal RD decisions, so it should come in mid March/April.

You're right about the majority of decisions being deferred for most colleges, however the split for Stanford's different in that they reject a majority, accept and defer around equal amounts.

For your ED, did you ask for Fin. Aid? That could have been a tipping point as well as Cornell's need aware.

'Tis a little late here, 11:28, and I'm about to sleep, so I'll post the letter tomorrow perhaps.

Edited to add:

I just rechecked... give this a read:

dda u got accepted in University Of Texas - Austin with that score? man u damn lucky...coz one of my frend got like 1890 and got rejected from Austin and hes so damn ****ed off rite now...ill surely give him the link to this thead...lol..

hahah well one thing to consider, is I am an Indian student, who lives in Hong Kong and has lived in like various other countries, so I guess diversity plays a big role.

Another big thing to consider is that I am American Citizen. (passport holder) Texas-austin, are notorious for admitting less number of international freshmen, however I guess they saw me as the ideal "deal" american but diverse.

Hope this helps, tell your freind that there are LOADS of other colleges that would accept him with a 1890 and that SAT scores arent that important. School grades show what you have been doing for three years, SATS show wht you did for three hours. Essays are important too.

I've got offers at Manchester (AAB) Sheffield (ABB) Edinburgh (BBB) Loughborough (320 pts = ABB or AAB with a scholorship :)) UCL (BBB) I'm still waiting on Imperial.

K_twin - I didn't ask for financial aid. International applicants applying ED to Cornell can't get financial aid. Its their policy.

Lakshaya M: Yeah its very confusing at times, but always gotta remember the desi pride (is that right word?) comes before everything else. Whenever people ask, I always say Indian and then give them the novel version.

inshallah: Im majoring in Business Studies/ Management.

dda - Your mix must be very helpful for your essays! Mine sure did - Indian living in Middle East travelled all over the owrld, multicultural school blah blah!
