The insomniacs thread- chat here when you are up in the middle of the night!

Good morning all. It’s 5 am. CD that’s horrible! Hope you are ok! So sorry to hear. Ouch!

I could have participated in this thread two nights ago. :grimacing:

I’m keeping my 4 and 6 year old niece and nephew this weekend and agreed to a slumber party Friday night. I may have slept two hours :woman_facepalming:t3: with a kid on each side and like little furnaces. We had to make an adjustment to that plan last night!

Got up at 2:40. I had taken3mg melatonin at 11. Read for a bit, went back to sleep until 6:30. Good night with total of 7 hours.

My entire life I have slept 5-6 hours and I am very well rested with 7, no matter how it happens!

The thing that has changed for me is that I am more relaxed about getting up at 2 or 3, read and go back to sleep- unless there is something important or I have to drive a long ways the next day. I take a crumb of Klonopin when that is the case and I get anxious about going back to sleep. Mostly can just go with it. At least I get a lot of reading in!

Kids are little furnaces!

I forgot to close the blinds all the way last night and the sun came streaming in onto my face pretty early (after I went back to sleep). I’ve also realized that my continued injury recovery pain is also partly to blame for waking me up early (though the wake up issue precedes the injury- but I think the discomfort adds to it).

Pain is a big part of my wake-ups. I have a bone spur on my hip that presses on a nerve if I lie on my right side. I am trying to sleep somewhat upright to avoid rolling over but it doesn’t work. I think pain is a big sleep problem for a lot of us young folk

Last nights sleep:

Sorry, meant to respond to @compmom

I bought this ortho pillow to help me stay sleeping on my back while recovering from eyelid/brow surgery. Basically it works; it’s a bit too firm so I put a soft regular pillow over it and t keeps me on my back (normally a side sleeper). I also read recommendations to put extra pillows on either side of your head to prevent turning.

Thanks @Marilyn! I also like the “odorless”…

Hi! I’ve been up for a couple hours. My book is not hitting the sweet spot of good enough to make me want to read it, but not too suspenseful so I won’t keep reading and fail to go back to sleep. (I’m not wanting to read it.)

I have a big day tomorrow to move D19 out and drive home together (at least 10 hours).

@3SailAway I use melatonin sometimes but with a drive like that (and a big day) I have Klonopin. I take 1/4 of the lowest dose and it knocks me out. I probably do this once a month.

Choice of books is key. I agree on how nuanced that is!

Thanks, @compmom. I’ve actually never had insomnia this many days in a row, so I kept thinking it would go away. I guess I do need a strategy for when I really have to sleep. I was up from 2-6. If I’m too tired to make it home today, we’ll just have to stop part way and spend the night!

Stay safe!

I feel relaxed about sleep issues EXCEPT when I have a long drive, especially with precious cargo like one of my kids.

So sorry you are going through several days of this…

It seems like almost every night my brain gets stuck on a question or problem. A couple of nights ago, it was a tough work project. I kept picturing the section and elevation views of precast concrete I’m detailing, ha. Then last night it was, “Whatever happened to Carol (a friend from the church I went to as a kid)?” Ugh.

I had same issues last couple of years so it turned out to be I was very low on iron -level 7. I put all the symptoms toward pre menopause. Now I am on mend with iron bills and watching what I eat. I sleep much better no more going to bathroom middle of night. So don’t ignore like it’s normal. So many symptoms disappeared.

It’s another late night, though I’m not sewing…appt with the hand surgeon is in eight hours. H leaves for an overseas work trip in the afternoon. I have to drive him to the airport, unless the doc decides to sedate me. Once H’s gone, I’ll start painting trim and the new kitchen bay window. Shades are due here in about six weeks, but I just want the painting done now so if they arrive early, I don’t need to freak out.

Am mulling color samples for our bedroom. Have been successfully finding furniture on FB. The headboard and nightstand I found for the guest room are delightful, but a different color blue than the linens that are my inspiration color set. My color wheel deck frustrates me. Trying to channel what my talented designer sister would think about these rooms. I haven’t had house-related mojo in so long, so am trying to get as much done as possible before I run out of it. My mind is racing.

Reporting that the drive went well! We switched drivers every 1.5 hours and I didn’t get sleepy. Slept through the night in my own bed when we got home. Fingers crossed that will continue most nights.

Best wishes to all for good sleep!

Wide awake at 2:30, ugh.

I’m in an online group of women runners and we’ve had a similar thread for insomniacs for years.

Before retirement, I sometimes had to be up in the wee hours for work stuff (sometimes planned weekend software updates, sometime unplanned support work page-out). Often it was the kind of thing where I had to be available online but not always actively working. Ah, it was CC threads on the home computer in the corner that kept me awake. These days if I can’t sleep, I almost always stay in bed.

Was up at 4 on the nose but went back to sleep. This gets old.
