The Jacob School of Engineering letter

ok, i just got this mail saying that im accepted to the Jacob School of Engineering…and this is not an email… its a real mail… LETTER :|

anyways… im not surprised about this, because on my acceptance site, it said i got accepted for CE. so, i expected to be in the jacobs.

but, i started to think about this… and i was wonder if u could get rejected from the jacob when you still get accepted into UCSD…
does anyone know about this?

Yes, it's quite possible. My experience is one of first-hand with this particular situation.

UCSD sends out acceptances based on comprehensive review numbers and their cutoffs... they then hand the numbers to Jacobs (and only the numbers) and Jacobs establishes a cutoff.

If you're above the cutoff, you're accepted to your impacted major, otherwise you're in your second choice major or you're undeclared.

Yep... it's all about the numbers.

But hey, congratulations!

I selected Chemical Engineering as my first choice and Undeclared as my second. They gave me winter quarter admission and Undeclared as my major.

Basically, I got into UCSD but rejected from the Jacobs School of Engineering. But I thought Chemical Engineering isn't one of the impacted majors...?

I thnk all Engineering majors except maybe Comp. Engineering are impacted

has anybody received one of these letters who applied to the ECE department. I have received an email from the ECE department that is slightly ambigious, it says
Dear Admitted Student,

Congratulations! Your outstanding academic record distinguishes you as one of UCSD's top applicants. We want to let you know that the ECE Department offers students a wonderful educational experience. ECE students major in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Engineering Physics.

We look forward to seeing you in September as a member of the Class of 2009!

Paul Yu, Ph.D
Professor and Chair,
ECE Department, UCSD

---does this mean i am in the Jacobs school of Engineering or are they saying good job on your acceptance to UCSD and not neccesarily the Jacobs School of Engineering?

^ You haven't gotten your official letter from Jacobs in the mail yet? I got that email and i also got a letter in the mail saying i got in...but it should also say what major you got in for on the ucsd website. I'm assuming when you logged into the ucsd website it says you got in for an engineering major, so that basically means youre accepted into the Jacobs school of engineernig.

No, I did not get the actual letter yet but I guess your right. the initial acceptance on the website said I was accepted as a EE major. I just thought that only meant I was into the college at ucsd not necessarily into my major because the Jacobs School of Engineering is suppose to send out acceptances one week after UCSD, but they would not have said I was accepted as a EE major on the colleges acceptance if it was still to be determined. THank you.

Question: I was reading about the integrated BS/MS program for MAE students. Does anyone know some more info about this? Such as the course requirements, how many years it would take, etc..?

The websites don't seem to have much info. They all say to call them. :)

Comp Eng is one of the most impacted majors on campus.

Yeah that's true. All engineering majors are impacted.

^ mechanical, aerospace, structural, environmental engineering majors are not impacted

are u sure those majors arent impacted?
