The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

Thanks for the link. I do have some similar to those. Tried them recently…. they are somewhat uncomfortable and really weren’t much improvement. Perhaps I’ll wear them on the next outing to Dillards (and maybe a different Macy’s that is near it).

Anyone on? In dressing room. Thoughts for nephew’s wedding? Cocktail attire.

You need a slightly different bra, but I do like that dress! However, I am not sure I would label it cocktail, but it might depend on your location and the venue??? I think it is the sort of tie-dye effect that makes me see it more casual than cocktail. The cut of the dress is good. Would be ideal for a dressier beach situation.

EDIT: You could definitely dress it up depending on accessories

Saratoga Springs venue and I am looking at better bra with lift and cleavage LOL. Nordstrom Rack $50 DNKY; maybe I’ll buy and get husband’s opinion.

I do want something I can wear again in San Diego.

Salesgirl agreed not cocktail attire so no go.

If that dress is only 50 bucks, I’d be buying it whether it worked for cocktail attire or not. It’s very versatile, and I’m sure you would have an opportunity to wear it sometime.

I really don’t need it. I did buy a cute aqua Felina bra!

This. I love light shapewear and have a favorite that I wear even with jeans and tees. I have several of these. They are super comfortable to the point that I prefer the one piece to bra and panties. I like the feeling of gentle “compactness” and the no-line look.

For our son’s wedding, my dress has built-in shapewear on top, so I’ll be wearing a high-waisted light control panty on the bottom that is quite comfortable, no sausage effect.

Went next door to Bloomies Outlet and found this, also $50. Not quite my best color but pretty dress, no shape wear needed!

That looks very comfortable! Saved it to my Amazon wish list for future needs.

I like this better than the one above! Looks easy to wear. Can be dressed up with jewelry/shoes

Bought it right away! Looks great for a dress I have. And my size was very inexpensive

I did wear a minimum shapeware shorts style. I bought it years ago at Banana Republic in a MEDIUM. It did just the job I wanted- smooth things out on my size 2 dress. I think I have only wore it as MOB two times.

My dress size at this point in life is a size 8. I have many different types of shapewear from one piece to panties to more compressive depending on what I am wearing. I will definitely wear shapewear if I go in person to look at MOB dresses as I want to know how they will really look. My tiny size 0 D wears light shapewear with some fashions today as it just looks better when everything is smooth. I don’t have any shapewear (even compressive) that is uncomfortable, but I have spent $$ for good stuff!

Nice dress and a perfect wedding guest dress.

Re: shapewear, it can be intimidating to know what to buy or to consider buying when the shapewear is literally more expensive than the dress!

Some of us may only know shapewear as being the sausage stuffing apparel. I’d like to give something like @ChoatieMom suggestion above a spin as an “entry level”. Lol. The biggest issue I can see though is bathroom time!!! Also wondering how supportive the upper bra part is - looks like it’s underwire.

@abasket , I was intimidated too because I don’t wear dresses often(in other words, rarely) and am low key with fashion. I like nice things but usually just wear simple stuff. I was glad though that I did get some light shapewear just for son’s wedding . I was nervous about looking okay to walk down the aisle, being in the pictures. Wearing light shapewear did make me feel a little more confident.

I am impressed with the small sizes some of you seem to be still wearing. I was about 110 pounds in my 20’s but have gained weight and am more in the 14-16 size these days. Fitting into size 2, 4, 6, is foreign to me. Even when I was much thinner, I don’t recall wearing super small sizes.

Tried it on for husband and he likes my old blue dress (upthread) better because he thinks it’s more slimming and it covers my wrinkly knees. Good reasons! Interesting because the old dress is 14W and the new one is plain 14. Since I’m not 100% on the colors in my just bought dress, back it will go and I think I will stop while I’m ahead.

Also wanted to note that the Bloomies outlet had tons of attractive dressy dresses in a variety of lengths and prices. If I was MOB instead of just Aunt OG, I could have found some great options. I think I’ve only been in the store once before. I will also say, in general, if one likes orange toned clothes, this is a great season to shop. I do not.

Vanity sizing! Some brands are notoriously bad with it. I have items in my closet sized from 0 to 12. They all fit!
