The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

What about burgandy cashmere wrap for my royal blue dress with sequins.
Cashmere Wrap | Quince (onequince.com)

Dress is like this but knee length.
Marina Sequin Lace Round Neck 3/4 Sleeve Fit and Flare Dress | Dillard’s (dillards.com)

Other options for wrap include black pashmina, coral/salmon cashmere tissue wrap or grey pashmina. I’m open for other suggestions as well. Have to be sure they will work with the sequins and not snag.

I highly recommend these wraps from Nordstrom. They are not 100% cashmere but they are soft and not scratchy whatsoever. Wash well, too. You can try one out at your local store. It is called a scarf but it is quite large. I use one of those as a travel blanket on planes. Can be worn as a puffy scarf, too!

@HImom i personally don’t think the burgundy is a good combo with the blue of your dress.

I also agree that burgundy seems off for a royal blue dress. What time again is the wedding? Other color options that might work… black, cream (not white), powder blue. Gray could work, but I don’t know gray for me is “blah”!

Some more pretty dresses for those who might be looking.

Especially love that first one, @BunsenBurner, but all of them have elegant silhouettes that would highlight a trim figure.

The one that worked for me was made by Maidenform

@BunsenBurner I like the third one…really nice blue!

Returned the Bloomies Outlet dress, swung by Marshall’s to check it out, and wandered the extensive “social” dress department at Macy’s. Luckily I have an acceptable old dress - the ones I loved were way outside my price range, and the ones I kind of liked were just merely above my price range. But if I had to get a dress, I would have managed. They did seem to have a sizable petite department. Also, if I was 50 years younger and 50 pounds lighter, or going to prom, lots of choices!

I also decided the Fashion Valley Mall Macy’s is like a roach motel. Once you enter, they don’t want you to find your way out .

Laughing at the last sentence!

Yes, I would not buy something I merely liked if I already had something I liked better. It has to be pure love at first sight for me to force me whip out my credit card.

My Macy’s looks like a messy Ross. Shoes are now self serve, clothes are on long stuffed racks with no rhyme or reason. We used to have two and one had nicer clothing up the nicer one closed. Our Nordstrom closed and the last time I went to one over an hour away they had gotten rid of their dress department.

I’m convinced that many Nordstrom’s are a receptacle for on line orders. To pick up and return.

They have a few things to buy. Not a great selection but you can find something.

There are a few Nordstrom that have a lot of stock. Things to actually buy. But not all.

When I was looking last year, I was very disappointed with what Nordstrom and Macy’s had in the store. Dillard’s had a much larger selection but I still ended buying online from Dillard’s in the end. It really does seem to depend on location in terms of what you can find in local stores.

Agree! Our giant Nordstrom finally started getting some inventory. However, their formal dress section is still abysmal. Lots of floor space devoted to high end designer crap (literally crap! who buys this stuff?) and beauty products. The latter I can understand, many shoppers have been trying to pamper themselves with something from that department.

Our Nordstrom has always been lean in the womens formal and Semiformal dress section. I went with a friend and she had the personal shopper…but the selection was so lousy that there wasn’t much to bring her to try on.

On that same shopping trip, same mall…this MOG bought 5 dresses at Lord and Taylor, and 3 at Macys. Macys was it’s usual messy self, but there were two of us friends to find dresses for the MOG. She bought nothing at Nordstrom.

Best Rack story…my dental hygienist was MOG. She went to the rack just hoping she would find something. She found a Tadashi Sochi (I’m sure I spelled that wrong) on the sale rack. It fit her to a T and was exactly the color she was looking for. She got to the register, and the clerk said “did you know this dress is 1 cent?” Yep….1 Penny! So she went and got herself a pair of $200 shoes! This happens every so often when they have the Clear the Rack sales…she hit it just right!

I have had that happen with a dress- 8 cents!

Made NO sense!

I refer to our local Macy’s as, “Messy’s.” I don’t bother going. I much prefer Dillard’s in our area.

Same here…because it is. I will say…the last time I was there (about 8 months ago) it was way better!

The flagship store in NYC is not messy!!

@Colorado_mom - was today your appointment with a Nordstrom’s stylist?

I had kind of wondered about the amount of inventory at your store and if delaying your appointment a week would allow them to pull from other locations. But, idk if they do that.

Hope you pop in to tell us about it, and if you found a winning dress!
