The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

The Kay Unger sheath looks lovely for a MOG for a garden wedding.

Maybe too close in color to the bridesmaids ‘.

If there are no pleats on the top, bottom pleats do not create “too much fabric” effect. I like this dress the best.

Thanks all for the lovely links! Don’t fret too much over sending more links because I’m really still going back/forth about length and other factors.

I am hoping the links have inspired other MOB/MOG (or wanna-be’s)/.

If you find a style you like, but maybe not the print or color, check for the same dress at other store, or directly from the designer’s own site. I have done this several times; the designer will created a color or pattern just for one store, but it is available in other colors at another retailer. Most recently I found a top for a family photo that I really liked, but the floral was too Laura Ashley looking for me; found it online at another department store with a larger pattern and the right color. Just a thought if you find the almost perfect dress.

Yea, that’s a good idea. I find with the better brands, sizing is pretty consistent IF you stay with approximately the same type dress. (At Macy’s that was not the case.)

If I recall, the wedding is in June this year or is it ? Are you freaking out at all yet with this not being settled and still so up in the air about length and style? My son’s wedding was May last year and I finally had to pull the trigger on something in February because I just didn’t have the strength to keep looking anymore!

Or is the wedding next year?

Yes June 10. Not freaking out because I have 5 new dresses at the house that will work, just not in love with any of them. At least one would require alterations (7-10 days if Nordstrom), so that does mean I can’t wait too long. I am stressed that hubby has not started suit shopping yet. He is also a hard fit, big/tall.

Correction - Not 5 dresses at the house. Just 4, since waiting on a Nordstrom one in my size… should be her on Monday. (But really the Kohl’s one doesn’t really count - ordered it with other items for the free shipping. Not as formal as I’d like, though in a pinch it would have worked… but have I returned it yet? No).

Just for fun I googled “how to look taller” and there are plenty of tips that apply! Many of which I think relate to that Eliza J belted pleated gown.

  • Monochromatic Outfit: The monochromatic dressing does not necessarily mean short women should be wearing one single color from head to toe. It just means if the colors you wear are all from the same color scheme with less contrast, you will appear taller.

  • Dresses above the knees, maxi dresses. Not midi that hit mid-calf. Midi skirts and midi dresses are one of the hottest trends right now, but unfortunately, they are not the best length for someone who wants to look taller. The reason is the midi length is quite awkward in that it is not short enough like the mini length to show your legs and nor is it long enough like the maxi length to create the unbroken vertical line needed by a shorter woman.

  • Avoid large prints. Be very careful with large prints, especially if they are on longer garments such as maxi dresses or maxi skirts. Large prints may look too busy and overwhelm a short person. It is critical to go with prints in proportion to your height.

  • Column dressing (the mini vertical pleats are like an ionic column). These outfits create straight lines up and down your body, which can make you look taller.

  • Micro prints. Small and vertical prints. Vertical stripes on your jeans, skirts, pants, dresses, shorts or suits make you appear taller and slimmer. Short ladies should avoid wearing clothing with large prints or motifs since they will appear wider and dwarfed.

  • V necks (here you go!). V-shaped necklines create the illusion of a longer torso and draws the attention downwards, making you appear taller.

My husband is 6’7 and he had good success at Men’s Wearhouse. He got his suit, new shoes, and a new belt within 2 hours of us stepping into the store. About 3 months before the wedding. But, they need lead time for alterations so your husband needs to get going, wherever he decides to look!

Excellent! That is where he intends to go. His post-Covid cough has finally calmed down, so helpfully he’ll go this week.

This brand does eventually have sales, but out of season. I have a couple things from them I’ve picked up at a favorite boutique. If you like this, you may also like Xirena and Sea. (Similar price points.) Me and Em is also similar.

Midi dresses are awkward on a lot of people! I bet a halter/tie neck in a long length would look great and help you stand out from guests who will probably go shorter.

Saw this picture of Katie Couric and thought it was a nice example of a flowered dress. Of course Katie has a big budget and a presumed stylist to help.

And it is a mock halter neck. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Did I miss how the dress being ordered in a different size worked for @Colorado_mom? Have you guys decided to go with short or long?

Looking mostly long (like MOB) or long-ish. No decisions yet.
