My Israeli friends are here spending 9 days with me now, another week in June when we’ll be able to celebrate my 75th (OMG) birthday. Anyway, Dalia will take a photo of me in the dress and I will post it.
Lol I got a haircut on Tuesday, the day before they came, and my hair is REALLY SHORT! Not like the model here!
Thanks. I have noticed that dress in my online perusals. Love that print, very similar to a favorite short dress I wore for engagement photo and weddings in 1980s (and reluctantly parted with during declutter). The top of that dress would work well for me, but i general the layered skirts I tried were not great. But it could be worth a try. The good news is that a local friend recommended an excellent tailor for alterations and hems. That makes non-petite long styles more feasible.
I may be back here for more suggestions after the bride gives feedback on my recent email with photos of my current crop of dresses (and links to a few other ideas).
FYI - A friend alerted me to a Talbott’s 30% off sale, free shipping. There are some formal-ish dresses and whole lot of choices that might be nice if you are looking for a guest dress for outdoor/beach events.
Colorado_mom - if still looking, could you get away with a more body-con, solid dress, then “garden party” it up with a shawl and/or a flowered print clutch purse? Just a thought!
That’s a very pretty and flattering dress, oldmom4896! I like the black background and larger floral prints - looks elegant! Plus the side waist drape is a great structure!
Bunsen - I absolutely loved Katie Couric’s pink MOB dress! It was so youthful, flattering, not over-the-top, went with the vibe of the wedding, and didn’t look stodgy, LOL.
In general I like pockets for cellphone and tissue. Not big on fashion, and sometimes I don’t even carry a purse. For MOG dress, pocket would be bonus. But it’s not a requirement.
conmama - I’d imagine it depends on the style of the dress…? If it’s flowy with a lot of fabric, pockets could remove the need to cart around a purse! If it’s a more slinky, body-con dress, then I guess the pockets might interfere with the flow/line…
Totally agree. I just spent a couple of hours this week taking out the side pockets of four long-sleeve pullover tops that I ordered from Amazon for next fall. I have removed the front/side pockets from every pair of pants/jeans I own (flat back pockets are unused/OK). If it has pockets that I can’t remove, I don’t buy it. Don’t need the bulk.
Example: One on the left still to go, those on the right now pocketless:
Interesting comment. Made me realize that Kate Unger dresses had pockets on the styles with wide skirts. I fully understand why some people don’t want them, but based on the KU “pockets” category I found via google search there are other folks who also find pockets a perk.
