The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

For me…it depends on the fabric, and exactly where the pockets hit me!

I don’t like pockets in any kind of top except a cardigan sweater with pockets…but that seems more like a jacket.

I really like the jegging kind of pockets…none in the front (I never use those anyway), but patch pockets in the back which I occasionally use.

No pockets on sweaters or tee shirts or the like…

But for a MOB or MOG dress…or any other fancy dress…I don’t need or want pockets. My husband has pockets I can put things in🙂

I have friends who do what @ChoatieMom does. They get pockets removed from most items. I think for a MOB or MOG dress it would depend on how the skirt lays. My friend wore a dress with a full skirt and the pockets weren’t noticeable and she liked having a spot for a tissue.
One thing I’ve not seen addressed is taking into consideration the budget of the other mom. I had one friend who was MOB and the grooms mom was a couture shopper. My friend felt the need to make sure she wore something a few levels higher. Not couture but a higher end dress. She could afford it so money wasn’t an issue. Another friend is a great dresser who is a Nordstrom level shopper and the MOG was more of a I’ll find something in the under $100 price range. That friend found a Ralph Lauren long dress on sale at Macy’s. The grooms sister took her Mom to Macy’s and helped her find a dress.

Not all clothes are suitable for pockets. I absolutely love having pockets in dresses with fuller skirts or flowy jumpsuits. Pockets in fitted, tight clothes - that’s a pass for me. Katie Couric was definitely excited about that feature of her dress, lol. Pockets give me flexibility to keep a tissue or a lipstick handy without having to bring a bag.

I gues I didn’t realize people actually used them. I consider my bag an accessory, so I wouldn’t ever use a pocket.

I’m definitely not a person who wear couture.

But since I have two children and only two occasions to wear a dress to their wedding, I shopped for me and my budget.

I only have one child who got married and not once did I think about the budget of the other party.

She’s a nice person. But she shops at Kohl’s and Penny’s. I think her dress came from Penny’s.

I’m not even sure how many pictures we are in with the parents of the bride. Might not be any.

I’ll post a MOG dress update later today (or tomorrow).

In the meantime, for the new MOB/MOG searchers here’s a link from an AP promo email…

For those who have been waiting, I picked a Winner for my MOG dress (June, Garden Semi-Formal).

It’s a bit of a full-circle thing, because it was in my Dillards purchases, prior to the Nordstrom/stylist purchases. Sorry - I know many of you were rooting for other styles / links. But this is what bride and I (and the ever patient driver/photographer hubby) liked best.

THANKS for all the links and encouragement along the way. Happy Shopping :dress:

@Colorado_mom i think it’s lovely…and especially for a garden wedding. And you like it…which matters the most.

Now…how about shoes?

Oops… posted to fast. Navy halter, also Taylor, was 2nd place (was awkward with jackets). Link corrected above.

I’m confused…which one is your choice…the Taylor one? It’s very lovely!

Shoes TBD, probably wedge sandal (with pumps packed as backup in case of muddy weather)

Nice choice! Congrats. You can’t go wrong with a wedge sandal for a garden wedding. Espadrille-like heel? You can do beige, blue, green, or white!

I could go with these favorite blingy neutral wedges. But I’d rather find something new.

I really love that dress, @Colorado_mom! You’re probably half-a-head shorter than I am–back in the day I used to be 5’10", probably around 5’6" now but somehow I still feel tall. I will probably have to have mine shortened a bit–what with all my health issues, I definitely weigh less than I did when I bought it and first tried it on at home, and now it sweeps the floor a tiny bit. But I will wait–plenty of time from now to November to gain it back, who knows!

I recall much discussion about dresses for petite sizes for you–not my monkey, not my circus! It’s a really beautiful dress and I love the way the bodice is tailored.

Congratulations! I know how good it feels to have something that works!
