The no-news-is-good-news NMF rejection/acceptance/worry thread, Class of 2017

Also anxiously awaiting results! No news = good news, I hope!

Have any Texans heard back from NMSC yet?

The letter was dated January 17th, postmark January 18th.

I’m pretty sure I’m getting mine today. I live in FL and have 3 C+'s so the odds are not in my favor

@curiouscat319 Were you planning on attending UCF, UF, FSU, etc. with the FIS scholarship?

Not this Texan, yet… @megxhan

@Icgusa Yeah, I only applied to fsu and uf. I got into the honors program at fsu and will get the freshman scholarship if I go. I’m still waiting on uf which is my top choice. I have bright futures to fall back on, but the full tuition scholarship from finalist would help soo much.

I don’t think I will be THAT sad if I get the rejection letter because I’m expecting it. If I get into uf I don’t think I’ll be sad at all because it’s my dream school and instate tuition is still pretty cheap. However, if i end up going to fsu I’ll just make the best of it

@megxhan we are in the Houston area. How about you?

@Tex151 same here

@megxhan fingers crossed for you.

Earlier this month, NM called me and asked me for my dad’s employee credentials (he works for Walgreens, a NM sponsor). Can’t help but hope that this means they’re considering me as a Finalist for corporation scholarships… not sure though.

No letter in Kentucky. Thanks to all for your candor, research and updates! You rock!

National Merit said today not “all” the letters have been sent out. Some decisions may be reversed in cases where students still needed to submit documents, for example. Schools will be notified on FEB 6th who the finalists are. Finalist letters will go out around Feb 13th. Schools will be encouraged to tell their students they are finalists before the letters are sent. They would like the schools to have the chance to share in the “joy” before letters are mailed. Hope this may be of interest. They would not say if our student was rejected even though we have lousy mail service. So far, he has not received the dreaded letter, although it would be somewhat of a surprise if he did. Some admissions offices told us they’d be shocked if he didn’t make finalist. But… you don’t know until its over right? Good luck to everyone and a big thank you for all the information and especially from those who have not moved on to finalist. Your behavior makes you a finalist in my book!

ugh, this is torture!

So in fact not all rejection letters have been sent?^

Hey, Class of 2015 NMF checking in here just to say good luck to you all! I know how agonizing the wait is, but it will end eventually. Best wishes for your college plans, whether they hinge on NMF status or not.

@binky17 , I think @lookin just meant that if someone has missing credentials, they may receive the dreaded letter later. Letters have already been sent to those whose grades were too iffy. If you/your child hasn’t received anything yet, things are looking promising by this point, but none of us knows for sure what the rhythm of the USPS is. Very good luck to you.

Yes. I had the impression on the call they are making every effort for anyone who still has credentials to submit, even at this late date. They appear to be trying to be as fair as possible. I would guess as you do however, that those old c’s or a d from freshman year or some other miss step, depending then on the confirming SAT score, the rigor of the courses and the essay… those letters are now out. Could also be some students had something happen during those bad grade moments and have or are submitting an appeal of some kind… health or family trouble. Unlike some of the universities… no compliment intended… NM seems to really want to make this a real award as well as a fair award. Ours just missed making a C last year. He now knows, do the work. And do the work when you get to college. It’s not a joke nor are the scholarships… especially the full rides. They will support, but they also expect. He’s not moving into the dorms w/o that being made very clear by parents. Sounds mean doesn’t it?
Thousands of students he’ll meet will be holding down part time, even full time jobs trying to meet the costs. Sure he earned his spot, such as it is, but still, the spot is as good as you make it going forward. Hope he gets it before we say good bye on dorm move in day. The world has changed folks. Second chances are not easily won. Ask the kids in China about that.

So schools are notified on February 6th but letters are not mailed until February 13th. Any idea what this means for homeschooled students? We just wait for letters? Wish we had a way of finding out even just a bit sooner as well. Doesn’t matter much in the grand scheme of things, but each day feels like an eternity in this wait!
