The Official 2010 UC to UC Transfer Thread

Man! Now I wish I had applied for a different major at UCLA. Not only do I feel like changing my major, but this new major has a 65% acceptance rate vs. my current major’s 12% acceptance rate. YARRR.

If I get denied under my current major, could I appeal with the information that I would prefer a different major (of which I have all the prerequisites completed)?

@ arcadefire

Whats your major and stat???/

@ slee0103

I think his question got answered because he made a thread about it

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/912940-ucla-if-i-get-denied-my-current-major.html

slee: I got sort of anxious so I opened up a new thread, haha.

My stats are all pre-reqs done, 3.89 GPA. Originally applied as computer science, but I’m thinking of switching to applied mathematics.

Any uc to uc transfers hear back from UCLA? or UCI?

@ watwatwat12

yeah…

Essays: 8-9/10

hi, for any of you guys who are transferring as econ. How many quarters of calc is REQUIRED for admission at UCSD and UCI by spring?? I am worried because I am currently taking only first quarter of calc. Trying to transfer fall 2011

^It would be best to actually call them up and make sure the classes you are taking fulfill their requirements.

I think 2 quarters = bare minimum, however, UCSD and UCI claim that they want you to finish “a year’s worth of calculus.”

ACCEPTED

Current School: UCSB

Current Major: Communication

Applied Major: Media Studies at UCB

GPA: 3.63

Prereqs: Missing two

Essays: 8-9/10

I’m so excited to go to CAL!

I was just about to bump this thread. So guys, basically all the schools have done their thing (except UCI…but ehh). How glad are you to know that it’s basically all over? Excited to tell all those people that UC-UC transfers is doable and is not “impossible”?

Personally, I’m so excited that I was able to go to a UC for 2 years and then transfer. I understand that we spent more on tuition than CC students (maybe not if you had FA), but I think it was SO WORTH IT.

You get the dorm experience, get ahead in upper-division courses, more internship opportunities, should be easier to adjust when we transfer, and you’re also able to tell someone you attend a UC and not a CC. Now comes the hard part and letting go of your UC (maybe easy if you hate your UC) and saying goodbye to your friends/housemates/classmates/random hookups/faculty. Good luck everyone! :)

@MidnightGolfer

Well said! I agree that going to another UC first and experiencing everything at that institution is so worth it! I know Berkeley will be an amazing place for the remainder of my undergraduate career

Midnight, where are you going next year?

UC intercampus transfers are doable! Everyone who is interested should just try because they have nothing to lose. If you don’t get in, at least you’ll still be at a high-ranked institution :)

I’m trying to choose between UCB/UCD/Cornell. I’m really stuck after getting admitted to UCB today.

They are doable! I was getting really tired of admissions officers saying “Oh…we don’t normally accept intercampus transfers…” Also the oh-so-common, “DUDE, YOU CAN DO THAT?!”

It never hurts to try! I told myself I would be perfectly happy if I got rejected everywhere and ended up staying at UCSC.

Another UC-UC transfer checking in.

Despite what EVERYONE told me (minus my girlfriend, brother, and parents) that UC-UC transfer were not possible and very rare, I am happy to say that I, and many others on this board, proved them wrong. From UCSC, I was admitted to every UC I applied to, minus UCLA.

I am thankful that I decided to attend UCSC, over perhaps a Community college, but I have become very tired of this school. It seems to me that most of the UCSC people on this forum are at least civil about their respective schools. For me, though, I could go on a rant for hours on the problems with Santa Cruz as a campus. Sure it is pretty, and sure the professors have been great in the Economics program, but the praise does not go much further for me.

Now, I need to make the big decision between my two favorites, UCD and UCB.

UCB has an incredible amount of prestige. The career opportunities coming from a school like UCB are HUGE. Everyone recruits here. It is amazing. However, from what I can remember, I really didn’t like the environment too much. I am also afraid about the competition.

UCD has an incredible environment, and a respectable Econ program. I much prefer the town of Davis and appreciate the fact that everyone is so happy and cheerful. For me, this is the perfect campus, and always was pretty much my first choice. However, its so hard to pass up attending the #1 public school in the country. ****, who honestly ever gets that opportunity?

I am in a stalemate. I am going to visit UCB next weekend to see how I like it, and I already know more than enough about UCD.

We’ll see what happens.

going from UC Merced to UCLA.
intercampus transferring is not a myth, do not listen to the blasphemy.

One other huge plus is that you get to keep your GPA, whereas Community College students do not.

I’m gonna be attempting UC-UC transfer next year, and I hope I’ll have as much luck as you guys. UCSB —> somewhere that offers my major, so either UCD, UCSD, UCB, or UCLA.

Also, @ Cali: I know the prestige of UCB is really hard to turn down, but everyone tells me you really should go where you’ll be happiest (at least for undergrad). My friends that went to Cal all love it, but also all tell me that it can get really stressful sometimes. My friends at Davis, on the other hand, tell me they love it and they don’t get too stressed. Like you said, everyone seems really happy at Davis, and I think you’re pretty correct in saying that. But really, I think no matter what your decision, you can’t go wrong.

Accepted from UCR into UCLA, Berkeley, UC Davis with regents, and UCSB. It’s definitely possible!

Accepted: UCI and UCSD, International Relations
Current School: UCSC, Global Econ
SIR: UCSD

I was doubting that I would be able to get in anywhere at all, since everyone around me made it seem impossible. In the end, I’m really glad that I did everything the way I did.

Definitely spending some time at a UC prepares you for life at another UC, and I think you get to meet some really amazing people.

@dhanini
What were your stats?

Hey Everyone…

So I got rejected from UCLA Business Econ for not having an accounting prereq that I actually took (it just goes under a different name at UCI)…and I got rejected from Haas because of 2 missing prereqs that weren’t offered during Spring quarter at UCI…

Congrats to all of you that got in! Especially Midnight and Cali  You guys totally deserved it!

Thanks sandaboy. Didn’t you say you were going to appeal because of the accounting prereq? If so, I wish you the best of luck. Otherwise, UCI is still a really great school.

I really wish that most of the UCs have some sort of articulation agreement with other UCs (other than Davis). It really would have made this whole transfer process easier and a little more full-proof, but maybe they just don’t want to encourage it :P
