The Official 2010 UC to UC Transfer Thread

You’ll probably get in Math 22 because people usually drop it within the first day or two. I love Eastman though and now I might minor in math after taking a few of his classes.

Btw, have you taken Stats yet at UCSC, CC, or in HS? Only reason I ask is cause Cal wants its students to take at least one math class there before getting admitted to a major. I’ve heard from friends and a few counselors that students usually take stats at Cal because it’s “easier” compared to the other math classes there. However, Davis has stats as a pre req.

eastman is a horrible teacher. what the **** is mount eastman, and y would anyone want to get lost there? i find the tas a lot better than eastman.

@Midnight Yeah, I took stats at UCSC.

@Merman… I think Eastman is a pretty good teacher. He is tough, which is why you probably think he is horrible… since hard teacher = horrible.

Merman, you kidding me? I loved Mount Eastman. I give mad props to any lecturer who uses his body to demonstrate the dynamics of vectors. I don’t think I ever really talked to the TAs or went to section in general (other than for quizzes) because Eastman’s lectures were actually really good.

@Cali Did you take AMS 5? I’m thinking about taking it next quarter instead of Econ 140, but I keep getting mixed results on how good a prof Morris is.

Yeah, I took AMS5 with Morris last winter. Overall, the class is hell. I worked my ass off, and ended up with a high grade, but I know people who worked just as hard and got a B/B+. He is a decent enough lecturer, but he likes to make his exams and quizzes “fun,” which translates to “confusing.” If you want an A, you are going to need to spend a lot of hours going over ALL the homework. Frankly, I would wait to take it somewhere else, lol.

Btw, got into SD today… my fourth choice :)

nah, eastman is easy haha. hes not a bad lecturer, i just dont learn anything from him

Eastman wasn’t too bad. Just lots of self learning.

Morris wasn’t too bad either. There’s a huge curve. Lots of self learning here, too.

I heard the Econ 140 professor is super terrible. 149 with Fung! woohoo.

Edit: Congrats Cali!

@Andrew

Thanks :)

Yea, I didn’t think Morris was horrible by any means. I read over my post and I think I exaggerated the weak points of the class a bit too much. For me, it was just a rather stressful experience because I knew I needed straight As and that class was pretty hard to study for. He was an above-average lecturer. Its one of those classes that is ridiculously easy to get, for example, a “B,” but rather difficult to get an “A.” It does, however, depend on the type of person you are. I know of people who BSed the class and received an A-/A.

Andrewhdn, are you taking 149 this quarter with fung? I’m taking that as well

@Midnight.

Yep! I enrolled for Spring quarter. I’m pretty excited for the course. I had Fung for Econ 1. He’s really silly.

I’ve never had him for a teacher, but the man is pretty funny. Last year I was able to participate in a research project with a few grad students and their advisor in the econ department. He always stopped by because he knew the advisor left out free food for us. We had to start closing the door because Fung kept stealing our sandwiches. One day he wrote on a sticky note, “Please deliver food to my office. Here is a map to show you how to get there. It is not drawn to scale. Thanks.”

Sorry, i have a question. i was unaware that UC undergrads could transfer within the UC system, so how does it work? Can you transfer after any year, and complete the rest of your undergrad at the UC you transfer into? i.e. two years at UCSD and then junior and senior year at UCB?

Yes, you can do an intercampus transfer from UCSD to UCB. The only issue is that community college students have a higher priority than you. Basically you complete your GEs (UC reciprocity) at UCSD and the pre reqs for the major you want to transfer at UCB. You must complete a minimum of 90 quarter units till a maximum of 120 to be eligible.

It’s doable, but you just got to make yourself standout compared to CC applicants. If you are trying to apply to Berkeley, you want to get as close to a 4.0 as you can (3.5+ HIGHLY recommended) and hope your major isn’t too impacted. Otherwise, UC-UC transfer rates are pretty high for students who meet all the requirements and maintain a decent GPA.

Sooooo

I got into both UCSD and UCI for Poli Sci (int relations)

I really want to go to SD…but my mom wants me to stya local for $$ purposes…and i agree…

but san diego’s poli sci program is sooo good…

oh well…

dinotubin-im getting the crappiest job in the summer so i can be comfortable in the upcoming school year.

if SD is ur poli sci dream school do anything u can for the sake of happiness

@Dino You are a UC-UC transfer?

@jane…

my mom wants to help me out with law school…so the least expenses in undergrad the better.

@cali…

nah, im out of a CC…1 yr transfer

i just got my major changed at uci so im stoked…i cant wait…im going tomorrow to meet with the director of the social sciences department… :D

I recently applied as a Junior UCI to UCLA transfer under the Business Economics Major. I just wanted to get an idea of my chances. Thanks in advance to everyone that replies!

I’ve completed all requirements and have achieved the following:

GPA: 3.92 Cumulative
Extra Curricular Activities: UCI Entrepreneur Society Active Member since '09, Currently Participating in SCORE (Counselor’s to America’s Small Business) workshops with certificate upon completion.
Work: Internet Marketing and Sales position at a Small Business for ~4.2 years (2006-present, 12 hours a week)…grew the business by over 30% in terms of profits.
Looking at a 4.0 for Winter '10 Quarter (they allow you to update your app, so UCLA admissions might see this)
I’ve done Extensive Volunteer-work throughout High School (They allowed you to list this on the application, but I don’t know how much they care about it)

Once again, all responses are appreciated!

You’ve got a pretty good shot I would say. 60%? UCLA is sort of random, but I think they are interested in the 3.8+ UC-UC transfer kids. Obviously your major is super competitive, but you are still above the mean requirements and your ECs are definitely above average.

Thanks for your input Cali Trumpet!
