@juliakgoolia and powerarm: It is a common myth among this and previous UC to UC transfer threads that if you were at a UC for a year, drop out and then attend community college, you will have a higher chance at transferring. The reason this is NOT true is because you’ve already completed major coursework at the university. In addition, you will not have been away from the university long enough for you to NOT count as a UC student already. So even if you go to a CC, you will be treated as a UC-UC transfer still. If you want to save some money, go to a CC. If you want access to invaluable resources that EVERY UC provides, stay at UCSC.

I copied this from the tag page… If you take over 30 units at a cc and only 25 semester units at a uc are you still a uc to uc student? I’m confused… I have 25 uc credits and 43 ccc units … What am i considered? I know I’m not tag but am I still uc to uc??

(ARE YOU ELIGIBLE FOR TAG?

A California community college applicant who:
has completed the last 30 semester or 45 quarter UC transferable units at one or more California community colleges, excluding AP/IB credit;

has been enrolled at one or more California community colleges for at least two terms, excluding summer sessions;

has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all UC transferable coursework by the end of summer 2010 for fall 2011 admission)

Hi! I also have some burning questions that need to be answered. For UC-UC reciprocity, do you have to complete any upper division courses if they’re part of your school’s GE’s? Also, if I take a class at a CCC, will that grade be factored into my overal application GPA?

Hellllp! :)

@Julia: Because you have 25 semester units it is conceivable that you were there for an entire year (12/13 I’m guessing), so I’m pretty sure you would still be counted as a UC-UC transfer. More coursework at a community college doesn’t really make up for the fact that you have significant coursework at a UC.

@oceanpartier: While I’m not positive, I do believe you would have to take those upper division classes for the UC reciprocity. Its just, upper divisions are usually major specific, so I wouldn’t imagine you have to take that many of them for GEs anyway. Also, yes, that grade will be evaluated in the context of the rest of your application (whether it was a UC-transferable class, how relevant it is to your major/if it met a GE, etc)

^ nope. upper division isn’t part of UC reciprocity. it only includes lower division breath requirements for your specific major.

Haha, yeah I would definitely trust kobeftw’s word over mine cause I’m not even kind of trying to complete GEs, let alone UC Reciprocity. My major doesn’t really allow for GEs till senior year.

Update time!

hi all, I’m currently a 2nd year at UCD and recently got accepted to UCLA. I plan on changing my major by the end of the fall quarter at UCLA. However, i was looking at the major prereqs and i don’t know if the classes i took at UCD are equivalent to the classes at UCLA. Does anyone know where I can go/or who I can contact to make sure the classes I took at UCD are equivalent to the prereq classes(of the major i intend on applying to) at UCLA?

hey guys

I will be a freshmen for fall quarter 2011 at UCR.

I was rejected by UCSD, which was where i really wanted to go, but I am considering doing the UC to UC intercampus transfer

Is it possible to transfer after 1 year so that I started my sophomore year at ucsd, or will it take me 2 years.

I am a biological sciences major

What are the potential impacts from transferring from a top UC such as LA or Berkeley to a lower one like Davis or SB? I have a friend who is considering this due to the academic rigor causing mental anguish, but I’m wondering what will the negative effects of doing this?

The academic rigor will not drastically change if at all. That is a bad idea.

Knowing some intercampus transfers, they have said that the rigor/class structures are pretty much the same. it’s the curve of tests and the psychological effect of being at a more prestigious school with smarter ppl.

My mistake on the wording. The rigor is not what is causing him the anguish, but rather the attaining of B’s or C’s in classes despite total commitment and effort in the course. I am wondering if the negative reduction of prestige from transferring is outweighed by the positive increase in A’s and GPA.

I also desperately want to transfer to uci because it was my first choice and as it is closer to home that would serve as an advantage to greatly satisfy my family problems that i have been having. So ucr to uci transfers how was the process? Any advice for a freshman undeclared cnas student?
