Post your stats?

Class Rank: 16 / 617 (2.59%)
SAT: 790 Verbal + 800 Math = 1590
The other stuff is apparently not important

Has anyone been accepted into UT engineering program that is from a non ranking TX school or is out of the 10% range?

yes.... my friend got accepted into engineering & he's not in the top 10% - but he IS national merit, so i guess that helps - 1600 too

S applied to engineering, from Louisiana, waiting to hear. Any idea how long it takes for out-of-state to find out? I know that they fill up certain slots first (top 10% in Texas, etc.), thanks to alongfortheride's info last year.

We were told that out of state students hear on April 1; UT is not a rolling admission school for out of state students.

I have a SAT score of 1070 and GPA of 2.7, do I have a chance to get into the liberal arts school? Extracurriculars = Student Government Association Representative, Medicin Sans Frontier (Charity Organization), and International Students Assocation in my school! please tell me the chances I have thanks

pokey318, thanks. Where did you get the info? I have been unable to find anything out about notification for out-of-state. The very huge and complex web site might have it, but I have not found it.....April 1! Good grief!

I called the admission office back in September, more than once! I was under the impression UT was rolling admission, but when I called I was told that was not true. Out of state students would be notified on April 1 with all the other schools.

This is what it says on the website:
ADMISSION OFFERS When a complete application arrives, the Office of Admissions evaluates it to determine which applicants should be offered admission. If you are a summer or fall applicant and your file is complete by February 1, you should be notified about whether you have been admitted by April 1. We notify spring applicants on a rolling basis beginning in early November. Final admissions decisions are mailed to applicants' permanent addresses. Most entering freshmen apply for the fall semester, and most of those accepted for admission are granted regular fall admission. However, some who originally apply for fall may be offered summer admission to offset crowding in freshman courses during the fall semester. In addition, some applicants are offered participation in the Coordinated Admission Program (CAP), which gives students the opportunity to complete their freshman year's work at a UT System university and then complete their undergraduate work at UT Austin.

pokey318 - thanks - I DID see that very paragraph, but since it says "We notify spring applicants on a rolling basis beginning in early November" , I , like you, thought surely that it meant EVERYONE since it does not mention "out-of-state" situations at all. I saw the April 1 sentence preceding it, but figured that it referred to people filing on January 31 or the like.
Is one of your children applying here?

My daughter decided not to apply after all. She has several schools that she would be happy to attend; Austin just didn't feel right. Of xourse, she doesn't tell me this until after we put down the housing deposit!!

Ouch...we sent the housing deposit in also - I look at it as insurance money.
UTx Austin is about #4 on S's list. He has others he's hoping for scholarships from. Good luck to your D!

I applied to UTA as a Texas resident but I didn't go to high school in Texas. If I was in the top 10% of my class, do I still qualify for the automatic thing? (don't understand that fully, but in any case, will I have to wait until April to hear?)

My son also goes to high school outside of Texas (we are residents). My understanding is that the 10% thing does NOT apply. You are a resident, but don't get automatic admission based on top 10% of your class. Karen

Thanks for the info, Karen. My dad lives in Dallas (Addison) so I qualify for residency but I guess that's only going to help me as far as tuition goes, not admission.

hiya --
how long does it normally take til we are notified? I am in the top 2% (in-state) of my class, and I applied during thanksgiving break, but still haven't received any word from ut.

I really don't know... most applications start coming in during thanksgiving break, so it might take longer. I got notified in 4 business days, but it takes 2 weeks for some people

We were notified by email in just a few days, the letter came about a week after that. But d applied early becuse I told her that if she didn't have at least two applications completed then she couldn't go up to Austin for a concert she wanted to see. So she got them done back in October. There were probably not too many applications coming in back then.

Exacly what does "rolling admission" means?
