The OFFICIAL Brown RD Decisions "Discussion" Thread - Class of 2013

34 schools?!?!

That's like a record. How did your guidance counselor let you do that?

20 schools...? 34 schools...?

Forget guidance counselor-- how did you pay all those application fees? And why would you WANT to apply to so many? Huge time suck. Plus, you're gonna eventually have to narrow it down to one, so why not start narrowing it down sooner and save yourself some work? 6-8 is pretty much how we do it where I live.

Okay.... what is "xxxx (mwl - 2.19.2009) -->" and why is it appearing at the top of my posts? This is strange.

EDIT: Nevermind... refreshed and it was gone.

I applied to so many for several reasons: 1) Ever since I joined CC, I realized how competitive admissions really was. Everyone on here has above a 4.0 and amazing test scores, I just had to "spread the net wide" and hope for the best: 2) I was a Questbridge Finalist so a vast majority of those schools were free to apply to--with the others, I qualified for a fee waiver: 3) Furthermore, my family is very (umm) "poor." We really can not afford even a state school. So, knowing that my test scores are not as perfect (or near perfect) like the many kids on CC, I had to apply to the selective private schools with the large endowments. It's paid off because they all have offered unbeilable aid awards. (I feel so grateful and I really do wish that future applicants apply to any school they want to and to not be afraid to apply just because of test scores. I truly think essays play a major factor as well.)

Oh, and my guidance counselor didn't care how many schools I applied to. I just gave her a list of schools and she got everything organized by the end of the day and mailed everything off the next. She's great!

Man, this girl at my school applied to twenty-two schools, and I thought THAT was excessive. I'm fairly sure she's not going to get into half of them, but it seems like you've got a damn good list to choose from already, Ambitious. As Tuesday draws nearer, I wish I'd applied to more than eight. I'm 3-0-2 as it goes, but... man, is it stressful.

Just because it hasn't been said in a while: good luck, everybody! Three days!

Take it easy guys, I only applied to 7 schools. Save myself some application fees.

I heard from 3. Accepted at Boston College, waitlisted at UVA, and rejected at Williams.

Brown Brown Brown. I'm crazy now.

seriously guys. overdoing it, much? i applied to 7. if i applied to any more than 10, my guidance counselor probably would've played a game of "eenie, meenie, minie, moe" with my applications and chucked a few in the bin. my mom would've checked me into a psychiatry ward. hell, i would've checked MYSELF into a psychiatry ward.

all that aside - i've been accepted to uchicago, pomona, hampshire, new college of florida, and the university of rhode island.

waitlisted at wustl. and so was the rest of the world (:

brown is the only college i haven't heard from. definitely expecting a rejection. i would have to be insane to expect otherwise.

Well, if u get rejected from Brown, you can always go to UChicago. No big deal.

oh, i'm not complaining at all. it would be pretty horrible of me to. although, i am still waiting for aid and the stress is damn near killing me o_0

btw, good luck everyone! the day of reckoning is less then 3 days away!!

Haha, you guys make me sound tame!!

I applied to 13 (say whaaaaaa?) schools! Do I regret applying to so many colleges? No, I really don't.

I, like the rest of you guys, knew this was going to be the most competitive year for college admissions ever, so I did my part by applying to several schools. I was hoping to ensure acceptance into at least a few schools and I honestly wouldn't have done it any other way.

Thus far..

Accepted: Macalester College, Whitman College, Wesleyan University, Middlebury College, Plan II Honor's at UT, Southwestern University, and Texas A & M.

Waitlisted: Reed College and the University of Chicago

Yet to hear from: Swarthmore College, Brown University, Emory University, and the College of William and Mary.

I say do what you want to do and **** the rest!

^I agree with you completely DeferredVictim! There's absolutely no way of knowing whether or not you will get into any school. Good luck to everyone!

Exactly! I know it may seem crazy to pay $600 in Applications fees, but I got a job to pay for the expenses and it really was not that bad at all!

For me, getting back all of the decisions is making applying to so many schools seem like a pretty fantastic idea and definitely gives me more options to work with!

well, if you could afford the app fees, then that's alright. i guess the whole concept seems alien to me because, although i got app fee waivers for most of my apps, my mom still whined incessantly about the $60 she had to give me for pomona (i have no job). my mom only has part-time, and my dad is unemployed, so i've been actively saving up money in anticipation of the deposit due in may, wherever i go.

in any case, it must be great getting back all those acceptances (:

I applied to a total of 12 schools. I only spent $60 though because most of them were from fee waivers. But since I applied to 5 UCs and they only allow 4 to be waived, I had to shell out the $60.

I already got rejected from a lot of schools, so I am totally "pretending" that I never even applied to Brown.

I applied for so many because I am an international requesting financial aid (except for Brown and UChicago). I chose not to apply for financial aid for Brown and Chicago because I think their undergraduate education is worth $208,000.

Not surprisingly, I got rejected from all the universities that are not need-blind for internationals - Northwestern, UC Berkeley. Williams and Amherst accept about 5% of internationals each year.

My counselor didn't complain because he just did everything online (through the Common Application).

Congrats deferred!!! But I know someone at my school who heard back from W&M and was accepted .... strange...

I applied to 9 colleges, but 2 dual degree programs (so I guess I applied to 7 programs, really).
That was kinda a lot for me, but I had to apply to enough art &non-art schools to make sure I got into at least one art and one non-art school.

I've been accepted to: MICA, SMFA, Bard, NYU, and Northwestern.
I have yet to hear from: Pratt Institute (since they screwed up my email, ugh), RISD, Tufts, and Brown.

Ugh the 31st cannot come soon enough.
I'm not even worried because whatever, I'm sure wherever any of us go, we will be happy.
A rejection from Brown... eh. Not going to ruin my life.
But I hate the anticipation haha.

^^^ Oh really?!?!

I am an out of state applicant and I have not heard anything back from them yet!

Actually, our mail delivery person was unable to deliver our mail today. I wonder if my decision was in the lost pile of mail...

How did you hear from pomona? They send a letter that arrives on april 5th and you obviously didn't do ed or ed2 considering your waiting on brown.
