The Official Chances Thread!

Though you have no engineering-oriented EC's, I would say you have nice chance getting in xD.

Man, reading this thread makes me feel hopeless ._.

UC GPA: 4.15
Unweighted GPA: 3.90

SAT: 1910: V: 550 -___- M: 740 -- W: 620 :|
I'm going to retake the SAT I for a 2100+, so lets just pretend that it's 2100 :P

Will take Math IIc (probably a 750+) and SAT II Physics (probably 700+)

grades and stuff (first semester/second semester)

freshman year gpa: 3.5/3.5
sophmore year gpa (no APs): 3.6/4.0

*then I took precalc over summer, got A/A

Junior year grades:
English: A/A
History: A+/A
Japanese 3: A/A
AP Physics C: A/A
AP Calculus AB: A/A
AP Computer Science: A/A

(extreme upward trend XD)

Senior classes:
English, Economics, Computer Game Design (:D), AP Chemistry, Calculus CD (an honors class offered here that's for students who took AB the previous year), and AP Statistics

AP Scores:
AP Physics C Mechanics: 4
AP Physics C E&M: 5
AP Calculus: 5
AP Computer Science A: 5

EC's (weeaaaak):
Violin since 5th grade, Orchestra from 6th grade to sophmore year
Tennis.... only went to school's summer camp because I didn't make it into the team (my school's tennis team is very competitive)
Took product/transportation design at this supposedly famous art college named Art Center: College of Design in Pasadena.
Proficient knowledge in Flash and animation :D
Will probably hold a position in magic tricks club this coming year
Volunteered at library, hospital, and some Chinese non-profit thing (Tzu Chi)
CSF

Yeah... I was a huge slacker in the beginning of high school, but I brought myself back up. I go to a competitive public school in California, my family is low income, and I'm looking to apply for pre-business (undeclared?). What are my chances? :|

thethimble - High GPA, good math/science SAT scores. EECS and Engineering undeclared are both tough to get into though. I'd say 65% chance.

pick - Good GPA, SAT I a little low, SAT II scores are good. ECs are weak, dunno how much that will hurt you. Your ECs actually looks like this:

Orchestra
Volunteered at library, hospital

I'm gonna say 30-40% chance. Pull those scores up. Probably too late for you to get involved in ECs now. Upward trend doesn't really help.

Oh by the way, I'm giving out percentages because I think it's more helpful, but it's just personal opinion so take it with a grain of salt. Also I don't think what classes you're taking senior year matters so don't bother listing those (unless you want to).

Alright, thanks. I'll try very hard to get my SAT I score as high as possible :</p>

Probably I'll create a club too >_>

okay this Cal GPA this confuses me so much

basically it means they don't look at freshman GPA? if that's the case, then i have

7 A's
5 B's

And 10 of them were honors courses.....i have no idea how i'm supposed to calculate that, but on a normal 4.0 scale with A= 4.0 and B=3.0, that's like

3.58 unweighted

I'm an out of state applicant, I live in Massachusetts
SAT
780 in all
= 2340 total

SAT II
US H: 760
Math II: 800
Chem: 760

AP:
Bio: 5
US: 5
Eng Lit: 4 (didn't take class)

EC's
300+ volunteer, most of it is at a teacher. went to Yunnan University in China to teach english
Also teach at chinese school

I'm a first-generation college student.

GPA:
Un-weighted: 3.88
Weighted: 4.4
UC GPA: 4.13? I'm not 100% sure on that.

SAT I:
1970: 760M, 630 CR, 580W (9 essay)
This is on first try. I was actually in Berkeley at a concert (The Arcade Fire!!!) the night before the test, so I'm fairly confident to at least get at least a 2070 in October.

SAT II:
750: Math 2C
710: Biology

My class schedule is weird because our school has a block schedule.

I've taken THE most rigorous class schedule at my school. No one has taken anything more difficult.

So far in Community College I've taken 16 credits with a 4.000 GPA. These should all transfer to Berkeley, so my CC counselor says I will actually start as a Sophomore in college.

Extracurriculars:
I've done about 220+ hours of community service so far.
Basketball (All four years, won awards such as MVP and academic award)
DOD Math and Science Bowl or Academic League (3 years)
World Affair Challenge (2 years, our team won best overall, i got
other awards too)
Tutoring (free, 50+ hours)
LEO Club (officer)
CSF (president)
Model UN (founder and president)

** Thanks a lot for anyone who reads this all!**

Can you guys chance transfer students?!

y7bbb6: if you're OOS just post your uw GPA and weighted GPA if you know it. I don't know how UCs weigh honors/AP courses from other states.

To be completely honest, I think your GPA is too low. Berkeley OOS is really tough. I think you have a 10-20% chance.

saeraxD: I agree with vicissitudes on this one -- reach. Good GPA/scores (minus the SAT I and the last SAT II), weak ECs.

calivla: You're in pretty good shape, so I'd say Berkeley's a match.

thethimble: Though overall you seem to be a strong applicant -- good GPA, average SAT (minus the math score, which is above average), average ECs -- EECS is a competitive major, and undeclared engineering even more so. Since your ECs don't really demonstrate a focus or a passion for something as competitive, I'd say a slight reach, though you do have a good shot.

y7bbb6: Though your SAT is obviously great, your GPA (which is most important) isn't. Your honors/awards are very good, too, though your ECs less so. So I'd say Berkeley's a reach.

saasaa: Your GPA seems to be fine, though your scores are subpar. The fact that you've taken classes outside of your school and succeeded in them will look favorably on you. Your ECs are average. Your first-gen status will help you. I'd say match (maybe a high match).

I'm pretty sure that UCs don't weight honors courses for OOSers.

dump.... I guess not...

Torrancecali: Yeah, transfer chances are okay too, though you should also check out the UC transfers forum if you haven't already.

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Asian
Location: California
Cali resident.
School Type: El Camino College(Public Community College)
I'm a transfer student!

UC GPA: 3.725
Rank: N/A

Torrancecali, unfortunately, most of us are not familiar with the transfer admissions process. If you're a junior transfer, I don't think they even look at your SAT score. Is the UC GPA your high school GPA? And it would help if you gave a GPA you've earned so far at your CC.

Yes, I am a junior transfer.
College GPA: 3.725
High School GPA:3.00

they don't really consider high school gpa.

oh, did you not post your stats? i don't see them.

anyways, for us to judge, i need to know the major you're applying to and how much of the course requirements (breadth and major prep) you've done. a 3.75 sounds pretty good to me, but that's a useless judgment to make without knowing what major you're trying to compete to get into.

sociology major and done w/ all pre-req(offers at my CC) Done w/ GE.

yeah dude, you should get in, soc ain't no thang.

thanks for replying! But social science admission rate is 23% so that is pretty competitive!
