While it's not mainstream math [and hence not what I myself am passionate about], try out some mathematical logic. Berkeley is I believe the number one school for logic...if you come here, and decide to try it out, I'll be happy to talk to you about professors, etc. After all, logic is one aspect of philosophy.

I am not sure about L&S score requirements, but I know they're not as stringent as those of engineering. It seems like you're the kind of student who tried at exactly what what you're passionate about, and didn't sweat the other nonsense, which is of course a good attitude, though one of my criticisms of the Berkeley process is that super high numbers tend to play a big role in the most competitive college admissions [e.g. engineering].

Your hook sounds great. Hopefully you make it in, and perhaps even try that logic stuff ;)

^ That was a hyperbole. I was just saying that math is probably my least favorite subject, which is not to say I don't admire the logic involved or its precision.

"I was just saying that math is probably my least favorite subject, which is not to say I don't admire the logic involved or its precision."

Sure, but what I meant was that it need not necessarily be your least favorite if you consider the broader spectrum of what "math" can mean, especially in a university. I.e., lots of the math one can expose oneself to really doesn't have anything of a similar flavor to calculus.

I would also recommend not restricting yourself to the philosophy department -- you can find more such things in the math department. The reason I kinda harped on that is that somewhat often, people don't realize that math in college just isn't how it is in high school, and don't give something they could like a chance. Plus, if I, clearly a mathematician, can be not much into logic, you could easily find the material amazing as a nonmathematician. Metamathematics is a good place to look.
