Hi all! This is my first post in the forum!! I’m a communications major too. have completed pre-requisites as well as IGETC last fall. GPA 4.0. I’ve done some tutoring in a non-profit organization for one semester and some other volunteering once in a while. Have been a student club president for over a year and also participated in other clubs/on-campus events. I’m also a member of the Honors Program at my cc. But I have no working experience… will this hurt my chance of getting in?

Hey @vivianqty you and my daughter, Emilie (who now has a CC account and is stalking), seem equally matched. Fingers crossed for both of you!

Why doesn’t UCLA state what day they’ll release admission decisions until it’s extremely close to “late April”? Berkeley tells us all the way back in January that they’ll release decisions on April 25.

UCLA can be annoying sometimes.

@Cayton are you getting an AA degree?

@Philosoup

Nah, I haven’t filled out the paperwork for it and I don’t meet SMC’s AA degree requirement about taking at least one “global citizenship” class.

Did you get an AA before transferring?

@Cayton yeah I did. Pretty useless eh?

@Philosoup

AA degrees can be pretty useless if you’re trying to transfer to get a BA/BS.

Still, having an AA degree is a lot better than just having a high school diploma. :P

@Cayton yep! btw when are you guys expecting ucla to release decisions? I think ours back in '12 came out mid-late april.

@Philosoup

Well, judging by when they normally released transfer admission decisions from past years’ UCLA transfer threads, I’ve determined that they’ll probably release them on April 18th~20th at the very earliest and the 25th at the latest because that is when Berkeley releases decisions this year and UCLA seems to try to have their decision released before Berkeley’s. Last year, both schools released decisions on the same day. UCLA, has not,as far as I know, ever released transfer decisions after Cal before.

So, yeah, probably around April 20th~23rd is when I believe they’ll be released. Sorry to be all detailed, lol.

Just curious, what is the average accepted GPA for English majors? Is there a link I can look at somewhere? I’d like to see stats of former English major transfers (or current ones) so I have an idea what I’m up against next Spring when I apply. Thanks guys. :)

@back2it https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof13_mjr.htm

@sky8888 Thanks, that’s perfect. Quick question, what does average units applied mean?

@back2it I believe it denotes the average quarter units held by those who applied to the major.

@sky8888 Any chance you can tell me how that calculation works? I mean, in CC it’s not quarters, it’s semesters. I will have 64 semester units when I transfer. The “avg. units applied” under the English listing in that link is 104. Just want to make sure I’m in the ballpark?

@back2it You multiply your semester units by 1.5 to get quarter units. You should be fine.

Someone chance me please…
3.67 Political Science Major
All Pre Req completed// Tap Certified and my alternative major for Tap is Philoosphy which I have 3 out of the 4 Pre Req done…
Certified honors scholar/ work 30 hours a week/ IGETC certified

@samsanati1993
Your TAP certification makes your chances much better. I think you’ll get in.

@Clayton
Thanks man I hope so!
I looked at GPA admitted for philosophy and it was 3.61 last year so if I don’t get in for political science I wont be to bummed but if I don’t get in for philosophy I’m pretty sure I’m going to appeal.

@samsanati1993
TAP certification helps so much in your particular case that I don’t think you need to worry about getting rejected. ;)

If UCLA doesn’t give out a soon, I’m going to be screwed. I want to take the day off from work that day because I know that it will be the longest work day ever. But I have to give 2 weeks notice to ask for a day off. I’m already screwed if the decisions come out on the 18th but I still have hope that they’ll announce that it’s the 25th so I can ask for that day off and just spend it at home freaking out instead of freaking out at work.
