They sent me two emails; one was to announce that decision’s had been posted, and the second was to show how to access my financial aid package. :)

Same. The latter spoiled my admission decision.

I didn’t receive them yet, I didn’t apply financial aid and I just checked the website yesterday afternoon, it said Congratulations…they even didn’t announce me the decision had been posted…

@vvvccc123

I didn’t get a congratulatory email either. It just said admission decisions were posted and then an hour or so later they sent me an email regarding my financial aid package.

I didn’t bother checking since I was frightened of what it would say, but after getting the financial package email, I knew I was accepted because why would they bother sending it if I was rejected? Money for a school I can’t go to?

Oh, you said they didn’t announce that the decision came out. Never mind. I think all the UC’s are posting decisions a week or two in advance and then sending a congratulatory email. This happened with UCR, UCI, and UCSB. In addition, I got the physical letters after about a week from the congratulatory email.

Still shocked I got denied >_>

Thanks guys, because I received two uc davis congratulatory emails today, I didn’t see any ucla email to announce me I was admitted.

First, please don’t be mad. I am just telling this so you will not embarrass yourself and waste your time.

If you are planning to appeal to any UC, make sure you have a good reason - NOT because you have a great GPA or have a great EC. Most UC accept students based on:
1.) the minimum GPA - did the student meet the minimum GPA?
- They will then weed-out students that did not meet this requirement.
2.) the minimum major requirements - did the student complete the major requirements?
- There is a good reason why they rejected you even if you only have not completed one or two course requirements.
3.) the personal statements (for CAL, UCLA and UCSD) - how did the student spent their CCC years?
- This is the place they will look how well-rounded the applicant is. So it is not too shocking if a student with the same major as you who has lower GPA than you got accepted and you did not. Also, the personal statements are like your application for scholarships. This is the reason why the other student with the same case as you get (will get) more money than you.

@vvvccc123 Me too!

lol, the only email I got from UCLA yesterday had to do with my financial aid letter being available on myUCLA. They sent that email several hours after I found out I got admitted, lol. I didn’t even get the email saying that my decisions is now available.

All of the UCs should send their notification emails as soon as decisions are released. UCSD did for me. :P

@dwencel24

That’s the white elephant in this room. What you said is absolutely true and something many are afraid to say because of the backlash. Not every rejected applicant should be appealing just because the option is there.

@dwencel24 oh for sure. It’ll depend on what they tell me Monday really. But I thought I had a great GPA, great ECs, great PS, the only thing I didn’t do is I have 1 prereq I’m completing in the spring this semester :(

@dwencel24 @BurntCorpse

I agree with you guys completely. The appeal option should only be used for those who have a very good reason to be accepted that was overlooked or not included in the original application.

@VivaLaVida14 Thanks! You too!

@GreatestThe

Sounds like you have a good reason to appeal assuming they rejected you based on the requirement.
Usually, there is still a reason why they will reject a student although the student has good background and only finishing the remaining requirements. If the remaining course requirements are prerequisite of core upper division class(es), I think that they feel like it must be completed before submitting the application or by fall semester. Why? Because, if for some reason, you failed those requirements this spring, you wont be able to take upper division classes and move on each term - this is why they “highly recommend” that a student must finished all the required courses for the major before taking any other classes (like for GE or IGETC).

@dwencel24 that’s a good point, but I’m hoping the rejection was due to my university in Canada.

At the end of the day, I did all that I could, and as much as it sucks, I kicked ass, and am the top student in almost every one of my classes. Can’t do much more than that.

@GreatestThe, I’m sorry to hear you didn’t get into UCLA, I hope UCB accepts you. But to be honest you should’ve applied to other schools, because your major is extremely competitive at both schools!! Either way best of luck :)

@ucastell haha I know man, I’m an idiot. Thanks dude, and congrats if you got in!!!

@GreatestThe

Idiots are not usually at the top of their classes. Let’s just say you made an error in your judgment. That doesn’t make you an idiot. ;)

Accepted! 3.9 GPA, accepted into anthropology a highly uncompetitive major lol but works for me . Waiting to hear from Berkeley and Stanford. Only schools I applied for. if you think you got denied because your PS had formatting errors, I assure you that’s not the case, not only does this seem to be a problem every year so admission officers are used to it but they’ve told applicants many times, no one gets rejected or accepted on a PS alone. I think many who are getting rejected with good GPAs applied for highly competitive majors and /or didn’t have that thing that sets them apart from the rest.
