@lkm291 Not necessarily. There are some years where one of the UCs will accept everyone on the waitlist. But to contrast that, there are years where some of the UCs won’t accept anyone at all. It all depends on how many Freshman SIR to the school. So really, the school agreeing to do a waitlist might not mean much.

@sonic23 OMG thats amazing! but at the same time i see what @Ikm291 is saying

yea after reading stats posted on I believe ms suns blog, not many students are even chosen from other schools wait list, but it does give a little hope

@anavera we can only hope that they will accept more people in from the waitlist this year

Yes…I was on Davis’ waitlist two years ago, but I didn’t make it. Turned out the school accepted no one from it.

Hey can anyone let me know what they think my chances are,
Psych major cumm. GPA:3.71
Major GPA 4.0 (if they count stats and chem 101 instead of pre calc, calc, or chem 60)
5 APs, all passed (psych AP was with a 4 as well as art history, rest were 3s)
64 units (96 UC units) this is not including the APs, which count as units I believe.
and I also had loads of community service and work hours
and am TAP.

I have a lot of premed classes which is what I am interested in and I made it very clear that I am not using Psych as a backdoor entrance.

@robertshahinyan Well, because you have TAP and good extracurriculars, and if you have good essays, I say you do have a good chance of getting in. However, any chancing we do on this forum doesn’t mean too much because we don’t work in the admission office… Good luck!

@lkm291 yeah I understand It just feels good to have some sort of reassurance from people who don’t know you at all lol. Even though I do feel pretty worried that my GPA just isn’t high enough, I just hope they consider the fact that the classes I took weren’t the ordinary psych classes.

@robertshainyan Sure! GPA is not everything, a more well-rounded person is what they are looking for.

@ikm291

I hate to say this, but UCLA really does care only about the numbers, unlike UC Berkeley. It should be more holistic in its transfer admissions process, but it isn’t.

EC’s are almost completely useless when compared to pre-req completion and overall GPA in UCLA’s admission process.

@Cayton Really?! I didn’t know that, as so many people are applying to LA, I thought they would also take other factors into account

@clayton so what would you conclude about my stats , i prefer blunt answers if that helps lol

@robertshahinyan

If you’ve completed all of your pre-reqs, then I think you have a good chance of getting admitted. Being TAP-certified helps a lot. To give you an example of how much it helps(Generally, anyway), the average admitted GPA for my major, philosophy, is around 3.5~3.6 every year; it doesn’t change much. I’ve read on these boards of people being admitted at UCLA with 3.3’s, 3.2’s, and even 3.1’s. TAP seems to be most beneficial to people applying to highly impacted majors such as yourself. I think you’ll be fine.

@lkm291
You’d think so, but apparently not. They’ll probably follow Berkeley’s lead in the future and emphasize ECs and personal statement more.

@Cayton

What’s your source on this?

@ocnative - I would assume the transfer statistics by major that UCLA posts up as well as their transfer acceptance rates those are essentially all one can use, aside from people’s personal experiences friends, family or people on her from last year.

@ocnative

My TAP program counselor confirmed this to me, and I’m inclined to take her word for it since my school’s TAP program works closely with UCLA in the transfer process(As I’m sure other schools’ TAP programs do). Also, looking through past years’ UCLA transfer threads, I noticed quite a few people stating that they got admitted with few or no ECs. Also, people on college confidential who’ve asked this question to UCLA representatives have stated that they were told it doesn’t matter much.

I suppose that I could still be proven wrong somewhat depending on whether or not I am admitted to UCLA; I have virtually no ECs to speak of that I listed on my application. If I get accepted, it’ll lend some credence to the claims I’ve made here. If I get rejected, in spite of my TAP certification, high GPA, pre-req completion, and application to a major that isn’t impacted at all(Philosophy), then I’m probably wrong. :D

@Cayton I can vouch for cayton that ECs don’t matter much if at all when being considered ucla mainly wants GPA and classes when we had a rep come and talk to us during a TAP workshop, however, she also mentioned that TAP is utterly useless too unless you wanna be considered for an alt major which really annoyed me and i hope that’s not true cause two of my classes i received a B in because they were honors.

@Cayton - Ah well that makes sense. Thanks!

@robertshahinyan

If you’re applying to a ridiculously selective major, say Biz Econ or Communications, then it’s useful if you put down an alternate major.

@babybergur Hi! I’m from a UC!
I had no intention of leaving my university. But when the application season came around, I thought, “oh, applying would be fun,” and applied to LA and Cal. It’s a terrible decision because now I’m kind of freaked out and I really set my heart on transferring when I already have a perfectly smooth life at my current UC. I feel kind of guilty for applying transfer too. I feel like I should give my spot to the CC students if Cal or LA deign to accept me.

@OneFish hear it’s very hard to transfer UC to UC, so I wouldn’t overly stress.
