The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2013

Anyway, The Game is much more than just an accepted student. He is perhaps the one man in our country who really knows what it takes to get in. His knowledge of admission stuff is scary at times. He has invented and successfully implemented strategies other international students could hardly fathom. I urge you all to seek guidance from him.

o and nrmcpr i compoletely agree with you. The Game does too. In his defeated attempts to defend himself he at times makes these incoherent broad generalizations

claps at the crowd of CCers wearing green jackets *

Bravo! Bravo!! :D (is this humor too sadistic again, khan91?)

@nrmncpr: What a reasonable argument. But let me add: Your explanation serves to enlighten those of us who seek to examine Pakistan's passage and now dwelling as a failed state. Too few nationals? No. Too many emigrants? Nah. Just plain double-nationals, ppl.

And for the record, India doesn't allow double-nationalities. And guess where they are now? To underestimate, Indian officials can now humiliate Britain's foreign minister. Ever heard of Milliband?

@khan91: I am not contradicting myself; that is why opinion. I think nothing can justify my fellow Pakistanis' disloyalty. You may think nothing can justify their loyalty. Just plain curves in reverse - if you ask me.

@karpov: Shall I recall Shakespeare? "Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so." So my point of view isn't incorrect; it's just my point of view.

And I can't thank for complements I don't deserve. Throw some of these at the queen.

David Miliband, Shakespeare, references to the Queen...are you Rowan Atkinson in disguise?

Enough of the unnecessary talk people/. Can we discuss something regarding college apps? Financial aid forms....
theGame..the EFC you mentioned on your ISFAA, did Gettysburg take your word for it and provide the rest of the money. Or did they gauge your requirement themselves?

Rowan Atkinson? NO WAY! Please....khan91, Rowan Atkinson is different...

Yeah 'Englighten :D' us about Financial Aid, as we are already done with our apps, so can't really ask for much help about them. Well, unless you know about a few cards that we can play AFTER we have submitted the apps :)

And khan91, I don't know why, is acting like one of those 'lets get to work' guys, so please don't let his advice deter you from writing anything you want to! Nothing is unnecessary!

ugh...Flibb, this is getting really tiresome. I believe you must have more pressing more matters than spouting inane drivel on this thread.

Yes, there is a problem of "identification" with us. But you know what, we shouldnt be washing our dirty laundry in public. There is a time and place for discussions like the one we were having earlier. COLLEGE Confidential is not such a place(Take a hint from the name). This thread is representing us Pakistanis on a somewhat global basis. Imagine some other national going through the thread, he's surely going to be amused and probably wont form a positive image of our country.(which tbh, we desperately need to project).

So lets get together, forget the bickering and talk about something positive and constructive.

is amazed at the level of maturity shown by college-bound Pakistanis *

Now, now - coming to the point of CC. Let's not start telling each other where we've applied, shall we. We're private citizens. As far as specialized advise is concerned, that's a tame public affair altogether, isn't it? Good.

Here are three easy ways to show your college/uni your interest:

Call them after every 2 weeks (not any earlier - please);

Join the college's page(s) on facebook and write on their wall about how much you would love to go there (and similar stuff);

Create an account at CAPS - Demonstrate Interest to the Colleges of Your Choice and use it as intended.

Just posting

hey! Sorry everyone! I was busy with prepping for the upcoming SAT1, 24th of January....gonna be traveling all the way to Lahore! Wish me luck all 3 of you! :D

theGame: thanks a truck load for the info man! we shall be looking forward to having more info...especially about financia aid! One thing I was wondering, what do call them every two weeks for? Hi, I'm flibb, now....erm...i just called....to say whats up? :S

Thanks for reviving the thread karpov!

All the best, flibb. May you score mightily high and then some :D

Explanation: Call your colleges(s) every other week to ask about these kinda Qs:

Week 0: Have my documents been received? When will the admission committee start reviewing my application?

Week 2: Has my application been reviewed? If so, how will I know the decision and after how long? If not, please (this is a request, so ask politely) inform me as soon as it is made; and

Week 4: Try to show you're friendly and impatient for your decision. You can even drop a hint or two that you're holding offers from other colleges but are not responding to them (i.e. paying the deposit) becasue you are waiting your decision at this particular college ;)

Always remember: Call the international admission counselor/director whenever/wherever possible. He's/she's responsible for your decision to a large extent, so try to positively influence him/her as much as possible.

Now that is called a politically correct para :D All the best!

Yeah Good Luck! If you end up in Avari, beware of the lady in the wheel chair. The spanish guy at holiday inn is good sport though.
malodrous, jerrymandering, can't remember anymore, it has been too long.

Okay, good reading it! I got rejected from Oxford too =( What gives man? Anyways, now I am waiting for my US admissions. Even LSE rejected me for one course of mine, but got accepted in other one though. Wish me luck people!

Hi people! Nice to see another *Paki * showing up! Woohoo! :D

theGame: Thanks alot man, since I can't wish you luck with your college admissions, I'll say I hope you find Gettysburg to be THE place, and enjoy it and enjoy your life as well.

Karpov: Thanks for the advice, i'll be alert now. Yeah, it's Avari unfortunately. But who cares! Lets hope I can score a 700 on each section!

whenwilltend: Nice to see you! It's okay with Oxford, who cares anyways! We can always go there for masters! And LSE is awesome, Congrats on getting accepted! Good luck with the US Admissions, not only to you, but to all of us!

Okay people, see you around in a while, back to SAT prep now!

and wow, does anyone realize we reached 50 posts?!

Oh good luck with your SAT! I apparently didnt do that well. Good luck with writing. And I did care about Oxford. It was my first preference =(

TBH, Oxford was my first choice as well...it was such a big dream: Rowan Atkinson, the oxford revue, the sheer awesomeness of the tutorial system, the desire to live in a hogwarts style place...the list is endless, but we have to learn to get over these things. I am going to apply next year as well...never gonna lose hope!

Lol, I hope so too. Yeah, Oxford was a dream college. What were your credentials? Because I heard no one from Lahore got into Oxford, which is quite surprising.

I know of two people who got into Oxbridge: one into cam and one into ox...and their stats were stellar. One had a world distinction in maths, the other had 7 As in AS Levels, 10 in O level, and his statement was awesome. I need to get back and study real hard, cuz oxford are after distinctions these days!

My credentials: 8 As in O levels, 5 in AS levels

Oh God. I have a world distinction too. Damn, I bet my statement wasnt that strong >.<
