The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2013

and 100!
YEs

^ We're still behind the Nepali and the Singaporean threads. So long way to go!

yes master. but my real concern is that so far atleast this thread hasn't accomplished anything other than providing support (and emotional at that) to those of us who have already applied. What would really be useful is if we could have high school students just at the end of their o-levels. cause so many o-level students in Pakistan can make the cut. They just don't try. Nepal and Singapore rolled together (no offense meant) have a smaller population than Lahore or Karachi. Here we have so many students appearing for an internationally accredied high school degree but not taking advantage of it.
The GAme
I hope you would use ur considerable influence to encourage more people to atleast become aware of the process. you could play a real crucial role i bet.

Yeah, sure thing. Pakistan has got a bucket load of talent, but it isn't using it to its full potential. Two recent examples of talent:

Youngest female Microsoft Certified Professional in the world is a Pakistani:YouTube - Arfa Karim Randhawa In A Morning with Farah post by zagham

Guinness record holder for the most number of As in A Levels is a Pakistani: The boy so set on getting to Cambridge he got 22 A-levels | Mail Online

Just Posting

Thanks a lot for the posts all of you, especially shahwaiz! I am finally done with finaid, so can post woohoo!

I am so happy that you guys heard about the 22 As guy...I know him and he is not only a genius, but also a real party person. Enjoys life like to the fullest :)

I agree with what Karpov says...Since most of us are seniors, maybe we should start to make this place popular! Problem: the lay down attitude of most of our youth. I dunno why, the majority isn't inspired/motivated by anything. And thanks to our pretentious counselor, the juniors/sophomores in our school think college applications are a piece of cake, to be done at the end of senior year. How about we start inviting our juniors to this thread? :D

One question, did anyone get any interview invites etc.? I had my MIT interview already which wasn't THAT good (we actually discussed my SAT scores :D), and now going to have a Princeton one this week (over the telephone). I welcome all advice, BUT at the same time I think these schools are VERY high reaches, almost impossible for me!

^ VERY high reaches?? I appreciate thy humbleness, Mr Distinction :D

If you're not requesting aid to their Ivy brothers and Charlton sisters, those (not these) may be not so high. Certainly not as high as the K2.

WoW
If only someone would interview me. Flibb bro you gotta take over the interview. Make it about yourself and not their questions. preempt them. they dont expect you to- especially in a phone interview so they'll just don't know what hit them.
Yeah but you could have a shot at Princeton depending on the essays. About this 22 A guy, why the hell is he studying computing at Cambridge. The article said he was admitted at Yale and Harvard too. Could you enlighten us Flibb. I almost fought with the game over his reasons...
Yeah please invite all the Juniors you know. Again the game could be very influential. I expect great things from him

And since all apps are gone. Maybe its time we start posting stats. Hm.. let me think a little more i before post mine.

Thanks again all two of you! :D

So yeah, I went to school today, and found a couple of students...perhaps they'll join...we can only wait :)

I am requesting for aid man, and A LOT of it at that. This is why I have applied to the Princeton etc as well as most LACs, cuz of the financial aid. Lets hope for the best! These are the K2's, and the rest might be called....Nanga Parbat? Down Pak Studies memory lane :)

Truth is, I wouldn't ave applied (I think) to most of these K2's had I not been requesting for that much aid. There are other awesome unis which, apart from the financial aid, are awesome. I could try UVa, Wisconsin Madison, Carnegie Mellon, GTech...perhaps even Berkeley. Brown etc. would have been comparatively easier for me had there been no financial need, as a good student who doesn't need aid is certainly more attractive than a better student who wants a full ride at these need aware places!

Mr Distinction? Lol, I bet that was real sarcastic, I know I have no chances :) Just for the sake of it, I have no distinctions 'real' distinctions...only AICE one...and has anyone heard of this AICE?

22As guy, well, I'll have to ask him, but I guess its cuz Cam was his dream, and he got a double scholarship to study there (both Lady Noon scholarship and the Cambridge trust scholarship)...I'll be specific after I've asked him...

So while you are pondering over the 'to post or not to post' question, might I as well ask you to think if it would be feasible to post the schools which we have apped to? I can't be sure :D

And has anybody applied to LUMS?

I have applied to LUMS (Gulp), but haven't yet submitted their LCAT fees. For me, that's just a way of showing them that I *abhor/i taking the LCAT with a SAT score > 2020, which used to be LUMS requirement not so long ago. Actually, only before they started executing their evil SSE designs :D

ok i will but let me be a little vague
SAT 1 2200 (plus minus 10)
SAT 2 in Physics Chemistry MAths2C 2240 (All around 750 plus minus 20)
O-Level straight As. Not many extra subjects. maybe just one.
The usual ECs
Colleges
MIDD
MAC
LAffayette
Similar paces. NO IVY league. asking for lots of aid
LUMS? YEs

Correct use indeed!

A side question, anybody planning to attend the LUMS olympiad? I wanted to go for the photo essay, but shootout is really attractive...gotta set up a team :(

Umm could anyone please tell me, why is posting your stats such a big deal?. I mean why has it got to be THAT confidential?

Moi?. I applied to HPM, Midd, Lafa, Lehigh, LUMS, UST, Swarthmore, WUSTL and a couple(insignificant) ones too. "But you havent got a chance in hell at those places" I hear you scream. Well, yes i know that. But as I'm fond of saying, " If you try, you might fail; if you dont try, you've already failed".

Stats
SAT I: 2220
SAT II: 2360 (Chem 800, Physics 790, Math IIC 770)
O-levels..8 A's.
School GPA, mostly A's
Teacher Recs and Essays: HAVE NO IDEA, (seriously, how can anyone say their Recs and essays are good?)
Pathetic EC's, but that's mainly because the school i'm at isnt even recognized as one. (No one, not even the teachers have ever heard of MUN). I've the usual debates, spelling bees, sports day awards, headboy of the school yada yada...

Fin aid.: ALOT.. make that ALOT ALOT..will need like 95% at most places.

So yea, that's me. I have a snowball's chance in hell, but hey, at least i have one :D

And again, @Karpov, why the secrecy with the stats bro?

Come to think of it, i can't think of a single good reason.
Guess i was just mumbling privacy to myself over and over without thinking the thing over.

and i guess we all like Midd
What were your essays like. especially the graded writing sample
