Funny how i continue to underestimate Pakistani girls. Out of curiosity, are we talking about Fifteen competetive SATs here?

But i wasn't kidding earlier. My school is probably one of the best in Lahore, as far as the A-levels etc are concerned. And at least last year i don't remember any girls applying to Wellesley.
If only they had cast someone other than Julia Roberts for that fateful role.

So i was discussing this with a friend the other day, and i'd like all you guys to give ur opinion on this.
Is being a Pakistani ever a hook?

MY school is known for substantive girls. So, never underestimate!

@Karpov what school do you attend Lahore?

Anyone from Froebels here? I'm not Pakistani... an honorary citizen at most but I thought I'd ask. O:

Edit: No, not Indian.

HA! i don't doubt it.
Shahwaiz69 i am already too deep here as it is. won't feel comfortabe giving that away.

^ Why fear the CIA, brother - even if you do feel like in a swamp? :D

@whenwillitend: I know LGS rocks. I have handled quite a few substantive girls from there recently :)

hey wheres Flibb? Has anyone heard how his SAT went.

Hello fellow Pakistanis (thanks for the correction game!)

Got back from Lahore, Avari and it's wheel-chair lady were ridiculous (no offence anyone, but she really made things bad).

So is everyone here from Lahore? Shahwaiz you are already at Penn? Wow!

You are right Game, you already gave away to CIA brother!

How about we hint at what colleges we are applying to? Would that be too conspicuous?

Nah dont think that would be too conspicuous. Not only to CIA but to anyone in Lahoe i'd say. I mean anyone whose met him can tell who he is just reading his posts. I guess the same goes for me too.
I warned you about that woman.

Yeah just noticed. Not bad Shahwaiz. Not bad at all. Hope you hang around here. all of us here really could use your advice and experience.

yes, you have any advice for low SAT scorers? Anyone does? I got a 2060 :(

^ If your component score is > 1400, then it's not a low score at all. Unless of course you're targeting the Ivy leagues and the Carletons of the world ;)

Don't quite agree with the master there. How about 720 m 650 cr. or 770m 620 cr.or 800 m 600 cr. remember the middlebury guy?or 750m 620 cr. i am not talking exceptions here the master but norms. how many times have we seen less than fourteen hundred getting in with lots of aid?Too often to be much surprised. no?
i know. but still.

So yeah, I would say 2060 is a very decent score considering I got into UPenn Wharton with that score along with two other Pakistani's my year with the exact same score. My brother got into Middleburry College, UVa, Tufts, Bowdoin with a 2070.

For us International's SAT score does matter, but not as much. Last year two of my friends got into Princeton, and Yale with 2100's and I know a guy from Aitchison who got into yale with a 1700 (truth), so focus on what would make you stand out even if that isn't always the trurth.

Yes, I am a dual degree at Penn (Wharton + Engineering). It's **** loads of work though, college seemed much easier when I was applying, now its just a pain. I've been through the application process twice once for myself and once for my brother. Next year my younger brother's going to be applying so I'll be in that system again. If any of you guys need advice let me know, I am good with helping people finding that hook all the CC'ers talk about.

I'm happy Pakistani's have discovered CC. I remember my year it was 3-4 of us Pakistani's who used it, this kid who went to Penn with me and this kid at Dartmouth, but make the best of it, its an ASSET believe me!

^ Did you get any sort of aid and were you a US National or Green card holder? And does studying at Aitchision increase one's chances of admission into US colleges/unis? I think you took a gap year since you say "I've been through the application process twice once for myself.." - true?

I am sorry if my post seems like a blunt questionnaire. I have never found any willing Pakistanis like you on CC (and btw, I had been undercover for many months as guest before joining CC ;))

Financial Aid, No, Aitchison, maybe.

See I never went to Aitchison, but we are 6 guys from Lahore in my year and 5 of them are from Aitchison. Going to a school like Aitchison does increase your chance of getting into a good college, since they are well recognized, but there are many other factors involved. I went to LAS ( Lahore American School). My year there were two who got accepted at Penn, 1 Columbia, 1 Brown, 1 Dartmouth, 2 Duke, 2 waitlists at Stanford. The year after (2012) No one got accepted to Penn, Columbia, or Stanford, one got into Duke and one got into Brown. The same case was with Aitchison 1 acceptance to Penn. So it varies. But people from Aitchison who are with me are either paying full (8 A's) or have 70% need met (11-13 A's). Thats O-Level A's.

I never took a gap year. My younger brother was in the class of 2012, he now attends Tufts University if Boston, MA. I basically had to do the whole college thing with him, help him out and everything, he got into Middleburry and many LAC's. I'll be doing it again for my other brother whose in the class of 2014, so its pretty much cyclical!

I am applying for FinAid now since I am eligible for the Federal Aid and FAFSA. I did not have a green card when I first came to college the Fall of 2007, but just recently recieved it. But initially never applied for Financial Aid, but most of my other Pakistani friends did get aid despite the fact that they were internationals. Having a greencard/ US citizenship drastically increases the chance of getting FinAid since average incomes in Pakistan ~$2000-$3000 fits into the US's lower middle class range. You are considered "poor" if you make less then $17000 a year here I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Interesting stuff. Can I query more? ;)

LAS, or so I have heard, guarantees your admission and visa to the States. So no problems there. In the class of 2012, I know at least two people from Aitchison who got into Princeton and one who got into Yale. So Aitchison is good in producing Ivy league graduates; no wonder it enjoys a good reputation in the States and increases her students' chances of admission there.

Did you brother too not need financial aid? He must also be from LAS because I can see no other way one can get into so may prestigious colleges without APs, American teacher RECs, etc etc. Still, it takes something. Well done!

LAS doesnt guarantee any of that. In fact kids with stats in the lower 25 percentile tend to go to UK foundations. My brother on the other hand got a full ride to middleburry but opted not to go, my parents wanted him to be near civilization so he's at tufts in Boston. AP's are important and Teacher Rec's as well, but not necessarily from American Teachers, Ivy Leagues arent that picky about such thing they want a hook and good scores.

Yes Aitchison has a good history with the Ivy Leagues, as does any school. The recent trend has been that people from schools like Roots, Beaconhouse Marghalla, St. Patricks, Bharia University have also started having admissions into the top 10.

Getting into college is alot about how you did in the last 4-5 of your life, AND, how well you can "game" the system! It is easier then you think it is....
