@lily_01: Woah! Fall of 2010 means THIS year! Applications still open? lemme check their site, thanks! =D

[NYU Abu Dhabi - How and When to Apply](<a href=āApply for Admission - NYU Abu Dhabiā>Apply for Admission - NYU Abu Dhabi)

Applications for Fall of 2010 are closed. THatās why I originally thought it was starting in 2011 :(

Oh well, nevermind, they donāt even teach Finance, just Economics :/

I am surprised that i didnot consider it for admission. It seems appealing.

LEts bring a New Path to the thread

** NUST VS LUMS ** Which is better ???

SSE point of view

I live in Saudi and NYU wasnāt even in the news here! Bad marketing :/

LUMS LUMS LUMS.

As a student with very good friends at NUST (PNEC Karachi) I can say that the crowd there is absolute crap. Although of course my friends are frustrated and exaggerate their āordealā, but its a very tough place for A-Level students to survive - you will need to unlearn your reasoning and analytical skills and stoop to the level of base memorisation to get by.

I have many friends at SSE too, and although they say that there are definite rooms for improvement, they are very satisfied with the student body. The teachers are well-qualified too. One friend of mine says he noticed an interesting trend that those who did their undergraduate degrees from abroad are better teachers than those with just a postgraduate education from abroad, who still have the Pakistani ārattaā touch.

Although Iām really confused about SSEās degree recognition. Does not being recognized by HEC mean that students canāt pursue a postgraduate education?

btw Does lums have a international applicant quota ?

And WOW this thread has picked up momentum!

Surely LUMSā¦Though NUST has a pretty cool ranking considering it is a Pak Univ butā¦

LUMS SSE has a very vigorous curiculum and some very good foreign qualified teachers. One of our my senior tld tht their Phy professor was a MIT PhD and Chemistry was Cambridge PHD and that their teaching assistant was a Standford graduateā¦
SSE is still developingā¦there are some problems. As rumours go by their teachers leave the university soon and their degree is not recognized by PEC yetā¦

However as we knowthat Government, Industries and repotedly USAID has given MONEY,gaining recogniion should not be a problem.

And replying to mushoo comments earlier made.Personally I had experience that some special students do get a special treatment.I donāt know if it is common in other schools or notā¦but I do feel if u make rules thy should be for every oneā¦

BTW Rootsianās surely rock when it comes to University admissionsā¦2 MIT accpetances is not a jokeā¦but I would disagree with mushoo aboutā¦āthe students make it specialā¦ā

Administration has got a role to playā¦It should be suportive to students rather than just busy in making money and getting grades in A levelsā¦

Its true that LUMS SSE is not recognized yet. The rumors, I guess, are not true. It takes some time to get accreditation and I do not think LUMS will have any problem in getting one. It should not be a cause of concern.

I know some of the people who are currently enrolled in LUMS SSE program. They love it. Although there are some problems, as the program has just been started, they think they have made the right choice.

ITs never to late but we really have picked the momentum RACE TO 3000 :D

guys, good to see some proper discussion going on, keep it up!

i remember from a few months back some of you were interested in applying to Lafayette. I heard from the admissions office that they released the decisions, was wondering how it turned out for you.

Its been a massacre man as far as the Lafayette admissions is concerned. I am not at all exaggerating. Many of my friends with impressive stats and awesome ECs got rejected, together with me.

i unfortunately ended up applying nowhere in US.

YEa, I have heard a lot about the ārataā system in practice in NUST, not just in the Karachi campus but in every other campus too. Can you believe that NUST has still got a uniform?
I, personally, think LUMS would be way better than NUST, although itās not in any rankings. But lemme tell you one thing, before I graduate, i.e. 4 years from now InshAllah, LUMS will be in international rankings as well and will have probably beaten NUST!
And UET is also another uni great for science and engineering but UET=NUST in almost every aspect. My Physics teacher who studied at Punjab University said UETās professor and staff are not all that friendly and that Punjab University is definitely better. NUST, however, has a lilā better reputation as far as friendliness and willingness-to-help of the staff is concerned.

So, for me LUMS then NUST then UET!
But for those who have missed the LUMS application deadlines (18th January 2010) should definitely consider NUST and UET.
Oh, and COMSATS is also offering study abroad as part of its bachelorās degree. Anyoneās got more info on that?

I am so late now after that discussion on which system is the best is over.
Anyways, I will still post. I also applied to MIT and as most of us know I was required to send them recs and other stuff which the teachers and the school staff usually fills.
Except for the Student Counselor evaluation letter, I LITERALLY made ALL of my recs letter!!! ALL OF THEM! IT FELT SO WEIRD WHEN I WAS PRAISING MYSELF! LOL!
My teachers simply didnt have time. They told me to make my own letters and, at the end, simply get it signed!
I study in PISES Riyadh and it is the premier school for O and A levels in at least the city and this is how we roll! (By premier, I obviously mean the results and stuff, not the system and facilities available!)

800th post.
