The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2016

my subscores were CR 610, W 620, and math 740. Its not really misleading, i know a girl who got into penn with a 1970, and another who got into brown with 2050, so sat scores aren’t really as important as they seem to be. You need to be a complete person and a good fit to the college itself. Obviously if someone has a 2400 sat, a 4.0 GPA, but is a brainless nerd sitting in his room with nothing exciting in his life, the college will obviously be doubtful about choosing them.

^ That is so funny, so you know Saigol @ Brown. I know her dad. btw, I think your numbers are fine and you are not misleading anyone. Sure, it would be better to be above 650 in all sections for the absolute top schools, but it will not kill your application. What about SAT II?

Recent SAT scores:

hahaha. yup, another saigol is applying to brown as well this year. SAT 2s im actually giving in november, hopefully 780+ in both chem and math 2. SAT again in december, hoping for 2100+. Thanks for the help with the SAT scores though.

2170 (CR 800, M 700, W 670)

It’s not poor, I know. It’s just that the Math score is really embarrassing (and unrepresentative of my math-ability, if I may add).

@Glaedr. Thats amazing man, i wish my CR was as good as yours :P

Believe it or not, I find the CR section the easiest. I had scored three 800’s in a row in the last official practice tests I attempted and so would’ve been disappointed if my score would’ve been less than that.

Ugh, if only my M and W scores would’ve been 30-40 points more!

@ Glaedr:

Oh lol, what a coincidence…I have a 2170 too. (790 M, 730 W, 650CR)… I gave it just this month. Was this your first attempt too?

well here’s another 2170(M 750 CR 750 W 670) on a first attempt as well :P

I scored 2390 in the October SAT
M 790
W 800 (Essay 10)
CR 800
This was my second attempt

I’m in LGS Johar Town, Lahore.

I have 6 courses in my A levels and my transcript is all As and A*s since the beginning for Grade 9.

@ alibhai

That’s 14 O levels(let’s see if you can spot the mistake you made).

I meant Statistics instead of Economics twice. Sorry. :p

What are my chances?

What do you want to study?

I’m kinda gettin an inferiority complex reading of your accomplishments alibhai- so congrats on all of them =D I have a feeling you’ll def get into more than one of those unis ;)

I’d love to attend UPenn’s Wharton School of Business but their fin aid for international applicants is real scanty. That has left me with nothing but schools that provide need-blind admission for international applicants.

In fact, my dream school is not even IN the US- I just have this wierd daydream about attending McGill in Canada. For some reason, I’m fascinated with that school. I’m certain I’ll have no trouble getting in- but the problem is- I can’t afford it even with a major scholarship XD Oh well, I don’t really pity myself for that XD

So that brings me to this question, and I know it’ll be a laugh to some of you- but does the government provide scholarships to Pakistanis who want to study abroad, particularly at prestigious unis? I’m actually an expat in the UAE, still someone asked me to check this out. I just don’t know how to go about that tho, who to contact :S

Got Zardari’s number, anyone? :P

^Yes, but I think it’s mostly for post-graduate study

^ Exactly, as far as I know, government only funds post-graduate study only, there aren’t any kind of funds for undergraduate programs.

Predictable :/

I strongly suggest you apply to CalTech, alibhai. You have the perfect profile for that place. Trust me. I was like you guys last year too applying to colleges, so I have extensive research on all that crap. YOU HAVE TO APPLY TO CALTECH.

did anyone get any kind of viewbook or any other material(hardcopy) from the colleges they are applying to? Cos i got one in mail from Northwestern today. :P

yup. i got one from columbia and nyu last year, but those were for summerschool programs. I got one from usc aswell, and then another one a few weeks ago. Oh, and the best one, i got like this brochure thing from harvard, like this whole book. But, i dont think im harvard material at all so…
