Applying after a gap year
Planning to give ACT

Any chance at UChicago EA and Amherst ED. NYUAD ED2. Cornell. Need full financial aid.

Was accepted this year to NYU with 30000 scholarship.Any chance?

^ No chance for UChicago since they don’t accept anybody who asks for full aid; might as well not apply there. Cornell would be a bad idea if you want full aid and are applying for engineering. If you’re applying to the arts and sciences, you should be fine applying to it. As for your ‘chances’ at these schools, you have provided too little information about your profile for someone like me to make any reasonable deduction.

Haha wow this is early…
Good luck to all of you! I’m willing to answer any questions as I remember the struggle/nervousness I experienced two years ago…

@pkteen DUDE, YO WHADDUP? :smiley:

Waddup with you?! :smiley: I was so surprised to find out how inactive this place has become after us @AltoLime

I’m doing counseling and bank work these days. Yeah, this forum has seemed to become less and less active. But then again, there are a lot more resources nowadays so there is lesser need to be here.

Come on, guys! It’s August, and we’re only two pages into the thread. How’s the application process coming along for everyone so far? I’m researching colleges currently, and trying to decide on a college to ED/EA to.

Hey, guys! I thought it’d be a good idea to share with you the fact that I am now a member of a private counseling firm called Ad Astra (adastracounselling . com). This firm is founded and headed by Jamal Hussain (who has been LGS JT’s head counselor for the past 3 years and continues to hold this position even today). Our team consists of students who attend the like of Vanderbilt, Cambridge, Stanford and Duke and who all have prior professional counseling experience. I’ve been pitching into discussions on here and ask for years too xD If you guys are interested in exponentially boosting your chances of getting into your dream college and are bent on taking the morally right path to success, do hit us up :slight_smile: we’ll be happy to work with you!

How am I supposed to know if a college is good in certain majors? All Big Future does is throw alot of unis at me. How do I differentiate which one is a match for me? @AltoLime

Since the same faculty usually teaches both graduate and undergraduate classes, you can look at the graduate school ranking for that subject. Although, at the undergrad level it is more about learning how to read, write, do math, develop social skills and think, so ranking in a particular major is considered less important.

@PakRambo It is always a good idea to scour the college’s website, look at its wikipedia, check out the profiles of its departments and check out its images. If you can, talk to some current students or alumni too. I convinced a girl once to choose Duke over Dartmouth just by showing her how much of a better fit Duke’s student body was to her temperament.

Alto lime. You just advertised on my page. Give me a share of the profits now.

Im just kidding.

Salaaam sub ke sub! I don’t live in PK but since I did grow up here in the states, let me know if you guys have any questions!! Happy to help B-)

bhaiounnn! I was forced to take a gap year. But now cause my grades were low - AAA in A2- but cause i was forced to…long story short: will my gap year have any adverse affect on my decision/ prospects?

@Hassan5 Depends on where you’re applying. I’m not sure about Pakistan but in the US if you say that you were “forced to take a gap”, it’ll be seen as a weak excuse. You can, however, bring it to your advantage if you did some productive work during that time period. What unis are you applying to?

Hey everyone…Did any of you applied to Duke ED?

Woaa a reply! Well familial reasons had forced me to… I had imbued myself with a task that was merely impossible- getting admitted to a Saudi Government university… But I’ve spent my forced-Gap-Year creatively. Will accentuate my profile In Sha Allah… Oh and I’m applying to US!

@Najubhai I’ll be applying to Ivy Leagues…
The ultimate Q…
I’m currentyl at Pakistan’n top institute, NUST. But I dont feel like its worth leaving my family… SO to make it worth it i’ll be applying to US>… I’ve skipped all the classes, will obviously fail all courses of this semester… Its a huge risk I know… should I disclose this information about NUST? or just go with gap-year story?

^ gap year, duh.
