philosophy major… as in, “what is a question?”

I lava philosophy and i can’t imagine anything more enjoyable than studying it as long as i can. Grad school, here i come!!! crosses fingers

I hope to transfer to Berkeley but if i don’t get in, I don’t know what would be my second choice between UCLA and UCSD. LA has a better phil program, but I’m not a big fan of LA with the smog and traffic. UCSD isn’t as good a program, but is still excellent, and is a far better place to live as far as I’m concerned.

I have a 3.9 so i think my chances are good. According to Statfinder, philosophy is the numero uno most accepted major at cal and ucla.

absurdmike, you have an excellent shot at all the schools you applied to. I’m also a philosophy major, and ideally I would go to Cal. However, I’m hoping for med school.

Let’s hope that philosophy remains the #1 most accepted major lol. I have a 3.51, so I’m borderline, but either way I’ll be going to a good school: (Davis TAG, SD TAG, LA, or Cal).

Im interested in History and ethnic studies of… you know… anything… which could be cultural anthropology. i need to realy specify, but what interests me is what things happen in the past, how things came to be, and different people’s culture nd how interesting it is how they live, etc. I was @ Cal poly in Earth Science but transfered out after Fall quarter now im at a CCC doing GE.

Which schools are good in History? (Euro / Asian / US / general?? ) Anthropology (Cultural), Ethnic studies (Generally, or just list a few)

I visited UCI and thought it was real fun! i come in a community with a large asian population but don’t want to base my college pathway on what is fun, but rather good education AND fun.

HS GPA was ~3.6 unweighted.

Additionally, what career options do i have as a history / anthro / ethnic studies major whichever one i choose. Im bad at teaching people things so i can’t be a teacher… and im not interested in being one.

How is UCLA’s history department better than Cal’s, Snooks?

I applied to both, and always thought that Cal’s department was better. I never found any statistics to back up my assumption. All i found was that UCLA accepts more history applicants and the Grad program is better at Cal, so I assumed that Cal was better.

TALL, UCI is one of the best. I’d say 1. Cal 2. UCLA 3. UCI 4. UCD 5. UCSD 6. UCSB

Well people’s idea of “fun” may include many things. I like nice kind people, places to go hanging out etc. I’m sort of chill. I don’t do the whole party scene, I dont drink or smoke, etc. I come from a majority asian community.

Im not trying to bash down ur theory. what specifically is “fun” bout those schools? When i think of CAL / UCLA i think hi-stress environment. I live in the bay area so that’d be close to berkeley, are the BUMS there a problem?

The bums there are wonderful. Except not really… you’ll get used to them. I remember this one bum had like a freaking bird on him and I didn’t even notice till my friend pointed it out.

I wanna minor in Japanese at Davis…and major in Design. I took Japanese in high school and forgot almost all of it and I wanna relearn it again and I wanna go to Japan one of these years. I’d also like to learn French too.

Poli Sci major here! I’m double majoring, probably in history. I might do German, but I don’t know if that’s possible depending on where I go. I could also do German as a minor, but then I’d have to drop my computer science minor. Aghhhh! Too many choices and only two years to learn things Although I guess people who double major get an extra semester/year

International Relations-y major here…global studies for UCLA, development studies for Cal, IR for UCD and UCSD…worried about my foreign languages hurting my chances…took 3 years of French in HS but no foreign language in CC…want to focus on how culture influences politics/ development…

@ Vedanta and Tall, history at UCSD is actually a fantastic program. I would hardly say that it’s 6th. I don’t have or know where to find any empirical evidence to back this up, but my best friend goes there and he finds it very interesting, rigorous, and stimulating. I’ve also visited campus, stayed for 3 days, and loved all of the history classes that I checked out.

I would recommend seriously checking it out.
