[ *] ACT: 30.
[ *] UM unweighted GPA: 3.7

President of 2 clubs senior year plus cofounder and copresident of another one. Easily 400 hours of community service.
[ *] Essays: Good.
[ *] Teacher Recs: Really good.
[ *] Counselor Rec: Probably bad because my counselor doesn't know me at all.
[ *] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.): None.
[ *) Location/Person:
[ *] State or Country: Michigan.
[ *] School Type: Large, competitive, public.
[ *] Ethnicity: White.
[ *] Gender: Female.
[ *] major strength/weakness: Weak: GPA. Strength: Life circumstances and charity work.
[ *] Other Factors/questions: Neither parents went to college, grew up with poverty income, first generation American on mom's side (born and raised in Spain), and I have had many health issues which forced me to learn most of my middle school and some of my high school at home. My 1st semester of junior year was very bad due to health issues. Plus, neither of my parents are working. My father has been disabled for 5 years and my mom got laid off because of the economy. But that's more typical nowadays.

csummerlin: I think Michigan is going to be a difficult lock for you. Your SAT/ACT score is just too low for OOS, which stinks because everything else looks good. You probably just aren't a good test taker. UW GPA is very solid, but isn't outstanding (eg 3.9+), so I think that won't really make up for SAT. I would guess deferral, then possible weightlist. I don't see you getting immediately accepted, but your ECs are great, so it would be a hard denial. Good luck!

som1: I am not familiar with your grading system, but if you have gotten As in the majority of classes, I actually think you're good to go. True, SAT could be stronger, but I think your entreprenurial attitude will overshadow that. If I were you, along with emphasizing the computer thing, I would also stress your background: Michigan LOVES diversity, and it sounds like you are leagues ahead of some people in that category. I'm not familiar with Ross' admissions policies, but I actually think you have a very good shot at LSA, despite the SAT. At the very least you will get deferred, I don't think rejection is possible.

roman: you should be fine, I don't know of any in-state students with your stats and 'other factors' (if you revealed them in your essay) who have not been accepted

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!

[ *] Ethnicity: Hispanic
[ *] Gender: Male
[ *] major strength/weakness: Strength: courseload Weakness: UW GPA and SAT's
[ *] Other Factors/questions: Will affirmative action help me lol?

ok i figured out my UM GPA: 3.75

monkyjack: hmm, i would have to say defer/waitlist, bc GPA is so low. Legacy status might help, but that GPA is a killer.

shark: UM should be a safety for you, assuming your IS consideration statement is correct. go blue!

His second born: According to admissions office, around march/april, once they have reviewed all applicants.

Fares: No problem, thanks for the thanks lol! i would have to say that Mich is a pretty big reach for you though. You are about 140 pts below the bottom of the mid-50% range, and you are OOS, which makes it even harder. GPA is very solid, but nothing amazing (even a little below they're avg. of about 3.5). You have pretty solid ECs, and your essay looks like it could help. AA was banned this year though, so race is no longer used as a determining factor in admissions. I'd put you at a solid reach, but again, the subjective parts of the application could be the deciding factors. Good luck!

who says their average GPA is 3.5? I'd say it's a bit higher...25%-75% is 3.7-4.0, meaning the whole top 25% are also 4.0 and only 25% are at or under 3.7

Does anybody know if there is anyway to see admission statistics for only instate admissions?

whoops, sorry, I meant 3.8. my bad, thanks for the correction :)

roman: no, i'm not sure. try googling it maybe.

I did, no luck.

[ *] Rank: 1/~550
[ *] Other stats: Out of 6 possible senior classes, 4 are AP/honors (one of the regular classes is newspaper; the other is a required art class). (I've pretty much always taken the most rigorous courseload.)
