Really? I am who I am, I don't see a point in denying that. People will only look down on those who don't even believe in themselves.

atrophic and charlotte, you should both be good to go. ACT/SATs are very solid yet not spectacular, but class standing and GPA, the most imp. things, are great. Good luck!

I really think admission to Mich is gonna be tough for you. Several people were deferred with 2250+ SATs and 3.4+ uw GPAs, and your ACT/GPA is well below that. Plus, you are OOS. The Harvard internship will help, but since Mich weights GPA far beyond most other things, I'd say defer/waitlist. Good luck though!

haha ok i was expecting rejection...im also getting a recommendation from the guy i worked under at harvard so that should help..but whatever im expecting rejection anyways

please reply!!

I actually think you have a pretty decent shot. ECs are pretty weak, but GPA and rank are good, and SAT is fine for OOS. If your essays are good-great you should be in. does your school send a lot of people to UM?

i have no idea......lol but some dude who has pretty much same-ish stats as me but less leadership positions already got in bec. he applied in september or something

if im the only one applying to from my school, do my chances go up?

pdoshi88: I'm just going to tell you what an admissions officer from WISCONSIN told me, and I will assume the schools are very similar in their admissions process, since their standards, time-lines, etc. are nearly the same. She said that it is an advantage to be the only one from your school applying, because then you have no competition (they don't always want to accept everyone who applies from one school, unless they are stellar candidates, because then the perception is that they aren't selective). She named several high-end prep schools in LA, and stated that "@ ____ Prep, we had 40 students apply last year, but only accepted 18 of them, in order to remain selective in our admissions standards." However, I also know of some excellent schools in SD that send 30+ kids per year to Michigan. I think they really want diversity though, and with Michigan's new diversity computer program, they should target underrep. high schools even more. So, basically, I would say if you are the only one applying/to have ever applied, yes, that might help if you are a borderline candidate (though you need to be qualified otherwise as well).

cookie: yes, but college admissions are a crapshoot; a lot of people get in with great numbers/ECs, and some get deferred/waitlisted. good luck though, hope i helped :)

i love how people stopped posting on this thread.........bump!

[ *] Subjective (ECs, special circumstances, etc): I guess I have an all right amount/variety of clubs. A varsity sport, a couple awards won in FBLA, little tidbits like that.
tay: i think you have a pretty good shot, standards are high now that 60% of the frosh class has already been accepted, but you are def in the mix. write good essays, and you should be in; at the very worst, deferred.

matt: i think you're a match. SATs are very strong, the only thing that could bring you down is your relatively easy course load (unless it is the most difficult at your school)...good luck though!

matt: I think that with all your past writing experiences that you mention, you will write extraordinary essays.. and if you do so, I'll put you as a solid match

4 HL (High-Level) IB is the most rigorous load you can take in an IB Diploma program. The normal load is usually 3 HL or even 2 HL.
