"The Scholar" reality TV show?!

"I am not going to release where my friend ended up because it would ruin part of the show and I am not willing to do that. I can tell you that she ended up at a very good school."

ruin part of the show? who f----- cares? what a tease. and i kinda figured she ended up at a very good school, being on the show and all...

They have their stats listed: http://abc.go.com/primetime/scholar/bios/cast.html

Needless to say, they're mostly very good

I am so watching this show. Needless to say, all of these students are deserving! And I just love these kind of things. I like to compare myself and my friends to these students. I know I'm not getting into HYP, but its encouraging that somebody is doing more stuff than me, even though I feel completely overloaded.

I know a girl who should be on this show. And I hope that when she gets on she doesn't win. I don't think she would have gotten into her top choice otherwise (even though she looks impressive).

Still, I don't see why people would be ****ed. This is just ONE student and I think they'd have to be acceted into the college first. Also, a lot of students (like me) do not qualify for financial need. But heck, I am broke (not my parents) and I am the one paying for college. >:/

Did any of you watch the show?

I thought it was going to be like The Apprentice, but I was ultimately disappointed. The show did not really reveal anything about the college admissions process. I was especially repelled by Davis' hubris.

The kids on this show are ing morons. The lightbulb-heat puzzle is ridiculously old, they should have gotten it in 5 seconds. That kid Jeremy Shakespeare wrote in the 18-19th centuries. What a *. The admissions board was raving about how mature he was for laying the blame on himself. That's not being mature, that's being unsure of yourself and being a total *. He hadn't done anything wrong, so he should have suggested that they flip quarters or something. Melissa crying just showed that she is immature, but the board thought it just meant she is very emotional. They also said that Davis gets "An A for confidence". In my opinion, he also gets an A+ for being a cocky **bag. The only kid who I actually liked was Scot.

I thought Jeremy most exemplified the American dream, with his parents going to America on a boat with only a small cup of water. I was glad that Melissa won, especially with her past hardship dealing with her spine.

P.S. I did not like that the producer chose not to specify which ivy league universities that the two adcoms came from. This is probably because ivy league is more catchy and recognizable.

Scot works 80 hours a week to support his family. There is no wa that you can say that anyone else on the show has it worse than him.

Oo I like Scot too. He just seems like he has a great personality, unaffected by high school drama xP

I'm quite suprised at the show. I thought the contestants would be special or have some trait that would set them apart from the academic world immensely but in reality they aren't much different than the "Average CCer".

BTW, is Davis underprivileged? I can envision him going to country clubs and playing polo.

I think Davis is just a rich prick who they threw onto the show to create some tension. Just look at what he was wearing.

One of the judges is from Columbia - can't remember which, but I googled him. I was extremely surprised how easy the final round questions were.

Both of the Ivy League judges are from Columbia

Scot is a pretty cool kid. I met him at some thing at Wash U late in 2004. I remember seeing the ad on TV and thinking that he seemed familiar. Today I just realized how I knew him.
I believe he finished high school a year ago and is taking college courses, not enrolled, right now and working.

I got the same feeling from Davis as you all got. The way he acted and dressed was not who should be invited to the program.

I find it funny how the titles of the two male admissions officers is only "Ivy League admissions"

-The show was pretty stupid; those kids didn’t seem any more intelligent than the people I sit in class with every day….

What were some questions from the show? (I missed it)

I really was looking forward to this show but it dissapointed me. The questions seem more for the viewers at home so they can interact and see if they got them right versus really hard AP material. The games and challenges did not appeal to me but I like the whole "bug juice" vibe when they are not competing.

The questions were friggin' easy! It was like
1. What book has a lady who has to wear an A on her chest?
2. What book is about a guy who's with a fish out to sea and is written by Ernest Hemingway?
3. Who wrote stuff like The Pit and The Pendulum?

I mean, holy flyin' ****!

That black girl was acting like she didn't know the answers. I guess she really is shy. I like her, but really the questions could have been a little harder. I didn't see any really inborn geniuses. Maybe that cocky kid, or maybe his cockiness makes it seem that way.

I vehemently agree. My personal pick is Scot and I like Melissa for some reason.

The show is stupid, if it was really about "Scholars" it would be mostly Asians/Indians, as shown in college percentages..not 3 nigerians, 3 white people, 1 asian, 2 beaners

Instead its based on some BS "disadvantaged background" , how else do u expect the black girl to win

also i like how they don't post their SAT's or anything. Anyone can get a 4.5+ GPA at a minority South Central high. Even if they do have high SAT's , everyone on CC knows, it only qualifies you to be considered for a crapshoot admissions. THe only reason they can get into those "Ivy's" is because they are minorities or "look at me i have scholiosis, i have disadvantages that General public likes to make a big deal about."
Why should someone be handicapped cause he's rich, goodlooking, tall, no STD's

Again, it shows how BS college admisisons are. They liked Jeremy's BS answer " i am the worst on my team." I guess its good for some chickflick/kiddie answer. If you said that on the apprentice, Trump would fire your ass in the real world in 2 seconds. Everyone on this show is beneath the average CC member.

I wonder where they all are going to school?? I know 2 of them are going to Columbia and Harvard but i dont think they talked about anyone else. lol hopefully Davis isnt going to Stanford next year
