The Scholar

Anyone see the new ABC reality show coming up called the Scholar. Airing this summer, it promises the winner (a high school student) a full four-year scholarship to the school of their choice.

Hmmm...

And the judges are people in the industry. Hmmm... (considering possible future TV career).

barkowitz - I did see a promo for this somewhere. However, considering that I am not too fond of reality television I doubt I would watch it. I guess I just don't like the level people go to get publicity. Not to mention eating ridiculous things, being made fun of (Simon - are you out there?), and just how stupid they make you look. I just hope that maybe this one will be better. I think your business is much better - remember the grass is greener on the other side:)

How do they select the winner?

I think I've talked to a kid who's on it. Crimson '09er

One of the Berkeley admissions counselors is on it. Theres an article about her if you go to the Berkeley News Website.

Gosh, If we are naming names, one is from Columbia. Now that is 2 of the 3 judges.

OMG! I was a semi-finalist for that show! No Lie. I guess i'm just not photogenic enough....... =(

It has challenges like "The Apprentice."

I hate ABC for not choosing me. I'm not watching the show....well, maybe i'll watch the first episode to see who they selected.

I wouldn't want my dirty laundry on tv anyway.

lunknot- you must have done really well to be a semi-finalist.What type of selection process did you have to go through?

i sent in a 5 min video about myself (just me talking) and filled out a HUGE-MONGUS application. . . it was almost worse than college apps.

Semi-Finalists had a taped interview; I know mine sucked really badly. It was the first interview I EVER did in my life. I was nervous as hell....needless to say I was really depressed for a while afterward, especially after finding out that i didn't get to the finals. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise though. I wouldn't have been able to have my NU HPME interview if I had gotten onto the show. Plus, I don't need them to pay for school...I received generous, and better (because they involve a community of scholars and a real network of amazing people), scholarships from other sources.

But man! It was exciting to be that close to being on tv. If they're casting again, i'd say go for it!
