THE SCHOLAR reality tv show

Hi guys,

What do you think about the new reality tv show (on ABC) coming up called the Scholar?

anyone in here applying for the show?

it's a scam!

newby. it isnt a scam bc the producers of the Real World (Bunim-Murray) have a casting call and an 18 pg application on their website.

lol. this girl that sits next to me in econ applied for it. apparently you have to make a personal video for it too :/ Even if I applied for it, I would be the last one they would pick, seeing how much of dull person I am. I wouldn't come out to be much but a self-centered loser on television.

A girl at my school applied too...but she didn't realize she had to take SAT IIs till like the Thursday before the November testing. She was freaking out till I told her she could just go take them on standby, lol.

Yeah, from what I saw, the application was HUGE!

Do you think they will stereotype the students? You know...like the Breakfast Club movie...the Jock, the Princess, the Nerd etc.

I went on their website and I read the thing, and a big part of it is your financial status, I think they really want to give "under-priveledged" kids the chance to go to college for free...

Yeah, but considering that this is SHOW biz, don't you think that image will be way more appealing to viewers. I mean of course the cause sounds worthy...but is that really their true incentive?

what exactly is it? Is it like the apprentice where you live with other people and compete for an award.

We don;t know what they're going to do to the kids but I know they're filming it this spring at some ivy league college.

The people from that show actually came to my school to recruit! all my teachers thought it was a joke because, i mean, what would they do? tape kids doing their hw? i heard from my friend they follow you around during your freshman year of college. i have no idea...

I'm just copying my post on this from the High School board:

I actually applied to be on it...don't laugh at me :) I'm pretty sure they'll pick based on what they perceive your personality to be + how it'll fit with the other kids. They probably want the most interesting rather than the smartest people...hopefully that will be me, because the application was gruesome and I spent wayyy too much time on it.

For those who don't know, The Scholar is a reality TV show that will premiere on ABC next year. 15 high school seniors compete for a full scholarship to the college of their choice. They describe the competitions as academic/athletic/service/leadership, but don't really go into detail

I can't wait to see it, but I'm not necessarily a tv person ;-) Best of luck to anyone who makes it!

So...it wasn't a scam after all!! It's airing on June 6th at 8pm.

Here's the website with all the scholars and adcom:

Reality tv hit a new low. Personally, I think the lives and dreams of students are precious, and that it shouldn't be something to be casually gossiped and laughed about by millions of viewers nationwide, but... I think monetary numbers will be against me. Who knows, maybe I will be a hypocrite and watch it too. :-) And I can't believe Fastweb listed it as a possible scholarship, considering it isn't realistic for 99.99% of applicants.

ahhhhhh i kno that guy max from oakland ca. I was right next to him before i went in for my finalist interview. Man...so close so clsoe!!! i feel so frustrated.
