For all the Seniors here applying to college, I think its time to start the road of the college Application Process. I especially want to focus on the EA process which really starts the first day of school. When I was applying to college I remember being really confused on where and when to do things. Since this site is actually one of the best resources for college information, lets make a list of things to be done for the typical EA applicant, which differs from some other lists like FastWebs which are a little out of sync with real life.

The EA/ED Process.

Lets first get the terms out of the way. Harvard and Yale are SCEA, which are single choice early admission, meaning you can only apply early to one institution, but are not mandated to attend.

Jonhs Hopkins is a good example of a typical ED, which means early decision. You have to go if you are selected , (with decent financial need met, if at all).

About the Second Week of September, its time to turn in your recommendation forms to the teachers you want to have recommend you. Remember, be nice and give them enough time since most EA/ED deadlines are Nov. 1 , give them a good 2 months to fill out your recommendation. I dont know how teachers are around your area, but in mine my teachers were procrastinators who need so much time to fill everything out. Just give them ample time, and MAKE SURE TO CHECK IN ON THEM ONCE EVERY 2 WEEKS, TO SEE IF THEY ARE MAKE HEAD WAY.

About the First week of October, give your Counselors Recommendation form to your counselor and inform them about the deadline.

Remember, WHEN IT SAYS DEADLINE IS NOV. 1, THAT DOESNT MEAN YOU TURN EVERYTHING IN NOV. 1. That means you start to send in materials in mid October. Remember a deadline is not the day to turn stuff in on.

Lets continue the discussion with everyone giving there own personal hints and tips.
