The strongest majors at Notre Dame

Does anyone know what are the strongest majors at ND?

According to BusinessWeek's rankings(here we go with rankings)for undergrad business schools, Mendoza School of Business at ND was ranked #3 for 2008, with UPenn's Wharton at #1 and University of Virginia at #2. So, I would imagine that business is a pretty strong major.

Thanks, ND Al. Could you please answer my next questions?
Do they also offer a good engineering program?
Besides business majors, are there any other strong programs for undergrad?

Yes, I would say that their Engineering program is good. In terms of ranking, they are listed as in the top 50 for this year. Keep in mind that it is not MIT, GA Tech or Cal Tech; but I believe that the program is solid. Many companies, including international, recruit on campus. And the support basis for engineering students is exceptional. I think that they try hard not to lose too many engineers to other majors because the coursework/load is so difficult/rigid. (But, then, it is pretty much difficult no matter where one attends school for engineering, just the nature of the beast, so to say!) Notre Dame's engineering offers what I would consider a more well-rounded program as well since it is not a Tech school, like GA Tech, Cal Tech or MIT. Engineers are required to take 24 credit hours in the Arts and Letters Core, in addition to 36 credit hours in the Basic Science core. As many others have mentioned, the courses in engineering for undergrads are taught by the professors, themselves, and not the TAs. Our son's experience so far has proven this, in the courses that he has taken. We heard that at many other higher level schools, courses were indeed taught by TAs. Overall, I think the program is solid, with many opportunities to flourish in engineering. The bottom line will be when the job ops begin to hopefully appear come graduation time!

I am going to add Italian.

What about premed program? I've read some posts on this forum about this program...

I think Philosophy is very strong and Theology is quite strong. Psychology may not be viewed as elite but I got a great education there which prepared me very very well for graduate school.

We have definitively the best Irish Studies program in the world outside of Ireland (and some people argue it's the best in the world, including Ireland). Not many people care too much about that, but as an Irish Studies minor, I find that pretty cool.

Econ and Math are both average, no more no less but you do get a good, broad core in the other classes as well as some very good and dedicated professors.

does that affect you much Citrus? (the averageness)
